Needing on Scourgestone

why is the default to greed on them? everyone needs them, so they greed it. I do not understand it.

if everyone needs on them no one can get screwed over on them

Losing a scourgestone is not a big deal. If someone needs one we can address it then.

Losing an upgrade or a BOE blue/epic drop to a need roll is a big deal. So it is safer not to greed these.

Whether BOE blues/epics go to need before greed is a whole different topic and parties should address this before the item drops.

IMO if you need something, it should become bop. Will remove the reward for being a ninja.

Generally a blanket everyone roll need or greed on a certain drop tends to just cause more drama than you’re trying to prevent.

If I’m using some green quest reward and an epic drops that’s a huge upgrade to me, I have to compete against everyone that just wants to roll need to sell it. But if it’s not an upgrade for me, and I want to roll need to sell it, I’m the worst thing ever in someone else’s group. It’s better to simply just define what constitutes “need” when it comes to drops.

This is one of those unwritten rules that can get someone labeled a ninja.

I think the proper thing to do with BRD chest loot, scourgestones, stuff like that, is to do a /roll. Whoever wins the roll gets to Need on the item or to loot.

However this is the seedy side of WoW. Just like in real life, some people just make stuff up after the run. THAT WAS THEIR LOOT, darn it.

That’s kind of dumb. The Need/Greed system does the rolls for you. Why not just hit Need and let the game do the work?

Why is “screw them before they screw me” the default, instead of just treating others as you’d like to be treated?

That’s why I said I think. The better groups I have rolled with went with this. It is like an extra measure to assure everyone that the group is considerate.

More than a few have made a mistake of auto looting an item that could have been rolled for (that actually could be looted by anyone) and it is an honest mistake. Using the alternative /roll is a good solution for some items. It sort of like the courtesy applied for dungeon chests. Everyone learns eventually (except for the people who make stuff up).

I just don’t run with PuGs. Rather run with Guildies with clear Loot Rules.

there’s no difference between needing and greeding as long as entire party push same button. Can’t you like tell your party what to push. You know, via chat.

The difference is Need overpowers Greed.

Typically, if players want to sell items for Vendor prices, they hit Greed. Need is reserved for players that will actually wear the upgrade. But I guess, in the PuGging world, everybody just rolls Need to be on the “safe side”, from Ninja looters, but that still screws over those that actually need said items.

Hence why I don’t PuG.

Honestly I don’t know. I’m going to say “Just roll need on the scourgestones” in every group I join from now on.

Well, you don’t wear Scourgestones, and at this stage of the game, it’s safe to assume literally everyone needs them.

Reasons I don’t PuG.

Because people need on Scourgestones? What does it matter?

If everyone Needs, it’s functionally no different than everyone Greeding, except that it can’t be ninja’d by someone pressing Need.

They’re BoP. It’s not like they can do anything with them except turn them in for rep.

It’s not that, it’s just I have my preference in how rolling should be handled, likewise so do you, and if we disagree, then why would you bother “catering” to my wish, right?

I just think there should be a form of rolling etiquette, and if people don’t want to comply to that, I’m really not interested in PuGging. So, as always, I just stay out of PuGs and join Guild runs 'cause they have the same rolling etiquette, as I do :ok_hand:

Yeah, the etiquette being “Need if you need, greed if you want it for money, otherwise pass.”

Everyone needs rep, so it’s an item you should need on.

Not everyone will be working on their Reps. And if everybody is just following the Need rule, then the Reppers/Vendorers are all competing over one item.

You can’t vendor them.
