Necromancer Class, it is time

You mean Plague Deviser Marileth?

I think DKs have that covered.

Feel free to post your ideas. I’m more than open to them.

Venomancer that I saw earlier could legitimately be cool though.

You can make up non existent lore all you want, Paladins and Priests are not identical either thematically or mechanically. Priests did not take shadow magic from Warlocks. You’re not convincing anyone in this thread, and you’re not going to convince Blizzard to add a Necromancer class by making up nonsense.

Exactly. Thats even ignoring having a fully based bone or blood class.

Some necromancers could flow between heavy hitting abilities that cost health and abilities that hit weakly but regen health.

You could have a ranged tank that as you said commands an undead creature, augmenting it and controlling it to a higher degree than other pet classes. A glass tank should you mess up.

So instead of a Warlock summoning a Felguard or Voidwalker to tank them, they summon a Felguard or a Voidcaller to tank a raid instead?

This is the novel gameplay we can expect from a Necromancer?

Arcane Mages with hp instead of mana? With the amount of unavoidable damage that goes out in raids, how would they survive?

Bro you’re so mad.

Besides a priest literally becomes a paladin in the class order hall campaign.

Already did (on my Rogue, for some reason):

I like how the primary examples of how we can add Necromancers to WoW, venom, blood, and bone, are things that Warcraft Necromancers don’t do and instead are taken from Diablo.

Blizzard straight up said that they took their ideas for a Necromancer class and folded them Into the DK.

Can’t include links, but from episode 7 of Blizzcast (transcript can be found on mmochamp):

Jeffrey Kaplan: Yeah. I think the class choice was super hard and eventually we had it down to three front runners which was pretty cool. We were talking for awhile about a necromancer. He would kind of be a range caster, do a lot of corpse explode, that sort of thing. Things we ended up incorporating into the death knight.

I agree with Bramagar.

I think it’s safe to say at this juncture that there will be no Necromancer class in WoW. Shadowlands was the expansion to bring them out in, and Blizzard didn’t do it. More than likely because Blizzard inserted the Necromancer class into the DK class back in WotLK.

The next expansion will no doubt be about something else entirely, so we should be on the lookout for the next expansion’s theme to see what the next potential class will be. It definitely won’t be death themed, that’s for sure.

Could very easily be added to blood dk. Already have(had?) the draining of minion HP with death pact, which sacrificed your ghoul to give you a big heal. Usually macroed together with raise ghoul for anyone who wasn’t unholy.

Could very easily be added as a blood plague applicator for blood. Already have bone storm and bone armor.

So, unholy? We had an abomination that grew bigger when we used dark transformation. Can’t speak to d3 necros, but sounds a lot like army of the dead.

I agree with this - I’d love a necro class, but I don’t think we will see any more classes added to WoW, maybe ever. The reason? Class order halls. Unless we get a class that could share an order hall, they aren’t going to go back and make a whole new order hall for a class, and they also can’t have an entire class unable to play through legion.

If we see the class order halls being reopened and revitalised, then maybe we might see a new class.

A rogue could become a Paladin if they wanted to and believed hard enough. What they were beforehand is irrelevant to the false argument that Priests and Paladins are the same.

I can easily see how DK was inspired heavily by necromancers. Id just never heard them speak about it.

That sounds wild! I’d love that!

Yessss! It’s so different than what we already have too. Would be amazing.

You don’t actually tank with a fel guard or void walker.

They just hold aggro for a bit.

The tank necromancer would have abilities giving you actual control. In effect you’d be using some spells to control movement and such as well as taunting cleave yada yada.

It’d be more like being a tank controlling your enemy remotely while empowering your abomination.

My options are rooted in the undead magic we have right now…

The only concept for necromancers I’ve ever liked is one with 4 specs inspired by the four major shadowlands covenants.

If we’re talking about plagues and skeletons and all that, unholy DKs already do that.

This would be a nightmare to balance. It’s essentially controlling the positioning of two characters at the same time from two very different spots, and doing a rotation, and dodging mechanics. Like, what about a situation like wrathion where everyone needs to get to a specific spot now or they die? Is the pet treated like a player in that they take all the damage a player would take from aoes/cleaves/mechanics? Or would they be like hunter and warlock pets where they’re essentially immune?

With the tinker class it’s channeled cast time spells would be a small gnome in a white coat channeling math equations into its target lol

Honestly it sounds like a Warlock.

The story goes that Blizzard chose Warlocks over Necromancers for WoW in order to differentiate themselves from Everquest. In addition, Warlocks were always sort of Warcraft’s version of the Necromancer anyway.

When you consider the Warlock play style, it makes sense.

Like a player… The abilities would allow you to move the “pet” to the location lickity split. Thats part of the point.

And yeah the difficulty depending on the situation would vary.
