Eh? You have a choice: pick a piece of gear from like 9 choices or whatever it is… or pick the tokens. If you pick tokens, then choose a gem slot or Crests. And in my opinion, those are great choices for me.
Grinding out WQs where I go into a raid and use all of my bonus rolls to get absolutely nothing was not a good feeling to me. The Vault, where I can just kill stuff and then get choices is infinitely better. I am always guaranteed a choice of something every week if I run content.
How you managed to turn that into a “false dichotomy” is beyond me.
Ooh, I see - we’re referring to different tokens. I mean the ones that gave you bonus rolls. I’m capped on those ones from the vault - and have been for a while. Have all the sockets and have a spare or two. But an option to spend them on a specific piece if loot that I want… I’d be down for that…
Right but if you are a Prot warrior or Port pally must likely you will use a one handed weapon which if I set my loot to fury on my dps warrior I can roll need on it as well since fury warrior can use both 1handed weapon and 2 handed weapon but 99.999999% fury warrior will always use 2 x 2 handed weapons as it does more damage and give more stats. As a troll I can set my main spec to furry and roll against port pally and port warrior.
It would be nice if we could use catalyst charges to get raid weapon/trinkets. Dinars really set the bar, why we backslid for DF, which imho is an otherwise amazing expansion, is beyond me.
I would say that the reason it is done this way is exactly because of how the OP describes it - the need to do the raid repeatedly to try and get a special item. Blizzard want people to repeatedly raid to ensure healers, for example, are going to turn up. If they made such things easier to get, people would get them and probably then not bother to turn up again.
The current system leads to burnout and only lowers the number of players available.
I have seen many of my friends throw up their hands over these items being essentially non-existent. It’s so frustrating to do the work and not get the rewards. Holding us hostage to RNG to keep us coming back is not a valid content design philosophy.
Purple legendaries is just not fair.
Either make them legendary and hide it behind a quest line (draenor ring was just fine)
Or make 'em purple that actually fckin drops. If I am not mistaken this was the 16th week, and still no Sark cloak.
Probably isn’t, but what other reason can there be? If the devs wanted players to get items they see as excellent for their class or spec, they could have it happen a lot easier. The fact that it isn’t easy equates to, if you want this item, you are not only rolling on the quite low odds of it dropping but the odds of you getting it when it does. That’s a double whamy and its obviously deliberate.
