The backstory the fan who designed them wrote is pretty fitting. They have to have a way to redeem them, while at the same time set them apart from other Naga. I get you might not like elves, but at least with this option there’s a solution that can be done “now”, without any extra effort. Not to mention (like I said before) naga are canonically elves that have been transformed by nzoth, so it’s not entirely unbelievable that the naga would revert to their original forms after nzoths corruption is lifted.
