Right, I hated that in FFXIV. I had to do Rigatoni Pasta, that’s so bad.

We don’t want XIV style names. We want a higher character limit with the option of one space, apostrophe, or hyphen.

Yeah, I do, too. I am sick of using special characters

They already free up names for inactive accounts. They’ll never take someone’s name away as long as their account is active even if it’s a never played level one Alt and that’s how it should be.

Oh, ESO names then. Which is usually done to give Argonians hyphenated names or everyone else last names…

Ive noticed my name Synful was taken on proudmoore and stormrage and i cant even find the person that took it. I did some digging and found they dont even play the game anymore or are on break…i dont know.

I took the monikor synful after a youtuber gave me the idea… shame someone beat me to it though.

Well the game seems to be getting less and less popular so I’m guessing ill get the name Fox in no time. hopefully

A friend of mine that we have played together for almost 20 years is a logger.
He goes up to logging camps, and lives at the camp for 3 to 6 months.
There is no internet up there that he can use to play WoW. So for 3 to 6 months,
he closes his Wow account when he is going to be gone.

Now imagine if this was you. You wont be able to play for 6 months.
So you stop payments and put your account on hold.
You return home eager to start playing. Only to find that during those
six months while you were gone. They took your main characters name.

That would not feel very good, would it?
Which is why it should never happen.

The way they free up names is fine the way it is. If a name is taken. Find another one.

Good question. I’m not really sure. But I do see a lot of people buying and selling names on Moon Guard and RP servers, where I imagine this is a lot more common than regular servers.

To those of you speaking about deployment and RL: I definitely hear you. As it stands, I think I’m pretty good with the system we have now, too, but it was brought up, and I wanted to explore what people thought about the issue. I do see that more communication would be nice, however–especially for people like our community council member who is hoping to get that name back.

I also really like the idea of having memorium accounts and names that can’t be taken or lost and having a web site that lists those people and their character names. I feel like it would be a wonderful tribute to those who have left us and a way to acknowledge their impact on the game and community. Maybe just a verification process like we have for losing an account–where you send a copy of the death certificate to Blizzard along with any character names on the account that you’d like to have listed there, and then that account becomes locked–can’t be deleted so that people who are keeping characters in guilds and the like in-game for remembrance’s sake can still have them there.

I also love the suggestion of being able to name our Warbands. >.> Could we maybe get a tabard for them too? <.<

I very much like this suggestion. It would alleviate so many of the issues we currently have.

And again, my thanks to those of you who offered your opinions–positive and negative. Your thoughts are invaluable and an important part of this community.

And yes…reading these posts about people deploying (As Reveknight says: Thank You for your service. It is appreciated)–or those who go off to work for long months outside the reach and range of internet (again, thank you for all the hard work you do)–makes it clear that a short length of time wouldn’t be great at all for releasing names. I’m sorry to have suggested it.

But as Akariliselle mentioned, it would be nice to have more communication about name releases so that people who are looking for a name can (hopefully) do so. I do still like the /waitlist idea, and maybe something like that can be implemented so that when we do have names released they can have a chance of getting the name before it’s just simply gone–one name on the waitlist only at a time.

But more importantly, as I highlighted above–being able to have one space, one apostrophe, and one hyphen per name would really solve a lot of these problems overall.

add last names, ez fix.
make it toggable tho.

Names were freed up both today and 3 days ago. Hoping some of you can snag some names you have been waiting on. Wish there was a heads up.
