I am not sure what change you are talking about. It has always been the ACCOUNT that has to be active, not the character.

It hasn’t always been like that, as far as I know. I believe even in Nobully’s CS thread it was mentioned that it was a change, just not a recent one.

As far as I’ve been able to determine, it has been this way for many years now. It isn’t a change in policy, it is simply how the system currently works and has been working.

It does appear to be at a Battle.net level, so if you are active on any license, it resets the timer for name release. I believe it’s worked that way for awhile but we didn’t have it specified

Of course, this is subject to change, as we are working to try to be as fair as possible to those who want to reserve specific names and also those who want to use a name that may have well been completely forgotten by the original user. If anything changes we’ll update that article to reflect it.
