Will Sea Elves become the new High Elves
Until we get actual High Elves, probably not
Naga are cursed night elves. Allowing them to turn back to night elf form at will defeats the entire point of it being a curse. They would literally not be Naga anymore, because being cursed into what they are is core to the entire racial identity. I’m sick of this repulsive mentality people in this community have these days of stripping away what makes this setting and its inhabitants what they are just because they want to treat everything in this game like just another skin, integrity of the setting be damned. It’s already bad enough Blizzard is following through on this all class all race nonsense. You don’t want to play a Naga. You just want another slightly different color of elf.
Also, from a development point of view, it’d just be an excuse to allow Blizzard to be lazy just like they were with Dracthyr. The race is still half finished and they were already starting from a point where they only needed to do half the required work of any other race because male and female share a model in their true forms. A repeat of such laziness is completely unacceptable. Make true Naga with effort put in to making their serpentine forms work or no Naga at all.
No, it would split resources away from the true form that needs the customizations and put it towards an ugly fake elf form that shouldn’t exist. Dracthyr visages shouldn’t even have the scale and horn options, they completely defeat the purpose of having a visage. Not to mention how adding those prevented them from doing the correct thing and allowing visages of any race, because now they’re going to want to add equally ugly options to any visage races they get in the future(assuming that ever happens).
Sea Elves? Oh my giddy aunt!
I mean, we still dont have the ENTIRE Dracthyr storyline.
But you’re already hypocritical.
The Dracthyr have had lore in game since launch, stating that they all can only turn into that Dragony Elf visage. It’s hard baked as thier only option. With the belief being it’s part of their creation process.
It’s also no secret that the Red Dragonflight primarily took on High Elven visages. The Dracthyr seemingly have more Red flight in them, then anything else, especially with their visage smoke even being the Red flight effect. The secondary element that sticks out the most, is blue. Who also typically chose High Elves during the game’s history. While humans were the typical pick for the Black flight. Hence their current Human/Elf/Dragon hybrid look.
You talk about how you want a race to be beholden to it’s consequences or state of being.
Such as a Naga not being able to have an additonal Mutated Sea Elf form. But then you also try and act like Dracthyr should’ve had any kind race as an option for a visage. Which straight up ruins the consequence/situation of their lore that they were created with.
I’ve wanted to play a dryad basically since before WoW existed.
I like the idea but Blizzard kind of killed my excitement for new races, tbh. I like the dragon model of the Dracthyr but I think their other model is the most bizarre and dumbest looking model ever, lol. It doesn’t look at all like it should belong in WoW. I thought you’d be able to pick any race and that race would turn into a Dracthyr…but they didn’t do that sadly.
i still want to play as a succubus race.
Which is something Blizzard made up at the same time they made up Dracthyr. It didn’t have to be that way and shouldn’t have been because it entirely defeats the point of what players have been asking for years regarding a playable dragon race/class.
They have equal amounts of all but the black flight, which they are getting back in the next patch. And what the visages of each flight usually look like is irrelevant, it’s a consequence of what races they needed to blend in with. It’s incredibly jarring for Dracthyr being limited to what they have, especially when you make a female Dracthyr on Horde. Not a single thing around them looks like a human when they create their visage, and I’m pretty sure humans/elves weren’t around at the time they were created, at least in the forms they mimic, so they shouldn’t have human/elf visages even if there were some legitimate reason for them to be limited in capability. It’s nonsensical.
Naga have existed for years with established lore about their forms being a curse. Dracthyr were created very recently and could have been anything. The Dracthyr are an incredibly flawed vision of playable dragons and could have been so much better.
there will never be centaurs.
Its never stated that they are equal. Just that they are made with all 5 flights.
Most of the Wyerns can only grasp 1 or 2 flight magics. Which is stated in the lore, as to why Evokers who harness all 5 are essentially a Draconic Hero Class.
Its entirely relevant. Also, even in the scenes of them on the Dragon Isles, the Aspects that is. They almost always converse in their chosen Visage forms.
All in all, its rare when a WoW dragon took on a form other then Human or Elf.
So why would player Dragons be allows the odd look? Especially when they were alive pre-sundering. Only having encountered the Elf and Human visages of the other dragons to begin with?
They’re not flawed. They’re what Blizzard intended and that is how they’re written.
Not being able accept that, but also trying to turn around and say it would ruin the race of Naga to grant them a Sea Elf form. Is exceptionally hypocritical, full stop.
Either you accept the parameters of Blizz’s races & their story. And are 100% intent on keeping them in the mold they were written. Ie: Dracthyr Visage/Naga only Serpents.
Or you think it’d be nice to have more varied options for players.
You don’t get to have it both ways.
wrong little gnome…you’re wrong
anyway i’ll be playing a dryad, not a centaur! i have to think of a name for my ferocious forest fawn
If we are going to get any water race, it should be the Jinyu.
I would be ok with Jinyu or Ankoan. They could easily make a female version and make them playable.
But alas we still dont have them, and so many people want Naga.
So I could see the Sea Elf form angle.
I don’t know.
they stuffed up dracs and showing us that they are so stupid that they don’t know what wings really do.
they let the character FLY not glide, understand? get gud?
ion clueless strikes again.
Because they’re literally surrounded by things that aren’t elves or humans when they choose their visages, at least on the Horde side. They didn’t know they had visages until that point and apparently picking a visage is a big deal for dragons, culturally speaking(at least Danuser’s fanfiction claims it is). Why would they pick visages of things they’ve likely never seen, rather than what’s right in front of them? It makes absolutely no sense for their visages to be so limited.
What Blizzard intended is flawed, that’s my point. The point of a visage form is to blend in and interact with mortals on their size. Dracthyr don’t need it for size, so it’s purely a matter of blending in. And that’s something they fail at spectacularly with all those hideous scale overlays and the visible horns(which the number of true dragons that show those in their visage can be counted on one hand). And in an expansion where we are seeing a lot more dragons with visages of other races like Ebyssian, Selistra, and Senegos who feature prominently in the story. Complete and utter design failure for the “playable dragon” race to only have access to what we have currently.
The new black dragonflight spec not being a tank or melee dps is also a pretty severe flaw in their intentions with dracthyr but that’s another discussion.
Nah.
Naga have years of worldbuilding behind them that works well. It can only be a positive thing to keep this dumb “sea elf” idea away from them so blizzard would have no excuse to be so lazy on their serpent forms. “More varied options” would be actually adding more options to the serpent forms. Not further diluting the game’s population into more boring flavors of elf that were dreamed up on the spot because some players don’t want to be “ugly.”
Dracthyr came out of literally nowhere and could’ve been anything, and the vision they ultimately chose is dumb. It fails to meet most of the expectations of a “playable dragon” as players had been requesting for years.
There’s nothing hypocritical or contradictory about that.
You don’t seem to know MUCH about Dragon lore. SMH.
They dont “choose” any race to be. The quest text with Wrathion & Sabellian literally tells Dracthyr to look inside themselves. Their Draconic magic manifests the form that is INSIDE them.
Thats why statements such as Kalec being a Half Elf (due to feeling torn between two worlds/peoples) and Chronormu being a female gnome are such HUGE things.
The visage day ceremony essentially is looking into the Dragon’s soul and forming who or what they are on a mortal guise/level.
Its not like they look around and go "Oooh, cool, an ORC, I’m gonna be THAT. Despite not having more then 5 minutes of interaction with thier species.
Very, VERY RARELY do dragons ever end up having the ability to change their mortal visage to a different species/race. One example is Onyxia.
Again, see my above section.
Visages aren’t meant to blend into X,Y,Z mortal setting. Visages are just their Draconic magic shaping them into a form of THEMSELVES so that they can more easily communicate with others instead of being a big ol scary dragon. Something the OG text for Visage form reflected, as it was said to make your party feel more at ease and thats why it gives HP regeneration out of combat.
You are sorely mistaken on what Visages actually represent. Please read the WoW lore books.
It is 100% hypocritcal.
Blizzard followed their own lore about Dracthyr Visage forms being tied to the inner souls of the Dragons.
To a point where the other dragons even mention how unique and strange the visage of all Dracthyr is. That it represents a core part of how they were created.
Honestly the Visage form may turn out to be a race of Elves that Neltharion used in his experiments to make the Dracthyr to begin with, we don’t know yet.
But the choice to have their visages be how they are is 100% unique world building.
Wanting them to change that, so you could have a Troll Dracthyr for instance is breaking that world building for your own sake. And doesn’t fit the narative of the world.
Just like adding in a Sea Elf, challenges the idea that all Naga were permanently stuck in their serpentine form.
Also, regardless on if they are given a Sea Elf form. Naga as they are, are just another flavor of Elf.
You can try and bash the idea all you want by saying Elf = Bad. But you have to eventually realize that Naga are just Sea Elves without Legs.
EDIT:
Also, as an ADDITIONAL point to my previous comment.
Naga Brutes are an enemy type of Naga with LEGS.
Which only adds further to the potential of a Sea Elf form, or at the very least.
Toggles for Snake tail, Octopus tail, or Legs
NO.MORE.ELVES! Enough is enough!
wow would be complete for me if they allow Naga races into the game, but for the wrong reasons…lol
