All encounters are timer based. They use X ability after X amount of time. They use that information to make a visual representation.

How do you think addon developers create the visual timers?

addons display very same information the game displays. addons by their technology nature don’t have access to any secret information.
addons though change the way the same information is presented

Exactly. Using the information you have about the boss, you could manually start a timer to accurately predict when each ability is going to happen. Or you could have a tool keep that timer and display it for you on your screen where you can see it.

Let’s see if I can break this down into small enough parts for your tiny brain to understand. Is it a “hack” to make observations about a boss’s abilities and write a chart that details when each is going to happen? Is it a “hack” to use timekeeping device to keep track of time? These are the two actual informational components of a boss mod. Someone has compiled a list of abilities and timers that go with them.

Then they use the code that Blizzard has made available to players to make sound effects and/or graphic timers to put them in a heads up display instead of a notepad and stopwatch next to your computer.

You lack a basic understanding of what a computer is, what software is, and what coding and scripts are.

When using actual English words and definitions, a “hack” is doing something explicitly with coding and scripts to gain an ability on or access to a system that is unauthorized. The key word is “unauthorized”.

Blizzard has built an entire system to allow authorized access to it’s data and interface, and the only thing that is allowed are things that the user could do themselves using their brain, paper, pencils, the tools/data that Blizzard already provides, etc. Anything that cannot be accomplished in these ways is not allowed.

Blizzard doesn’t just simply look at each addon and decide if it’s a hack and authorized or not. The rules and system are already in place. Anything outside of those rules to gain unauthorized access or abilities in the system is a hack.

By the way, using other games to talk about what a hack is or isn’t or what’s happened in the past has absolutely no baring in this conversation.

Addons are not banned, Blizzard simply alters the use or access to the system the addons rely on to function.

Users are not banned for using authorized addons. Even if the addon is broken by Blizzard’s alteration of the data/system, the users aren’t banned.

Users are banned for using third party software that gives an advantage over other players that is not intended and not authorized in the first place.

An addon cannot become a hack because the addon would lose access to the data/system because addons are built to live peacefully in the system that allows them. In order for an addon to function after Blizzard has restricted the data/system, you would have to completely rewrite nearly everything that comprised the addon, making it completely different at it’s core.

Therefore, an addon cannot ever become a hack simply because Blizzard doesn’t allow it. It would simply cease to exist or function, and something new would have to be written, that is unauthorized, to gain that ability for the user, and it wouldn’t be the same thing.
