Take first tank and healer 620+ who signs up to them. Do NOT take any DPS (yet)
Fill any last slots with highest ilvl DPS who sign up. Very often tanks and healers bring a DPS person with them so if you fill up the DPS spots early, you are far less likely to see them sign up and if they do, you either decline or have to be a jerk and kick someone to get them.
If key is timed and turns into a +5, either rinse and repeat or drop it to a 4 (go back to timeway portal room and talk to NPC there) and rinse and repeat. Do not go to a +7 because then you’ll start to reach levels that require some modicum of actual effort and skill. +4 is a really nice sweet spot of pretty easy and naturally weeds out the scared players who won’t go above a 0.
LFD isn’t some boogeyman and DPS players are HUGELY incentivizes to either get well above the curve to stand out in a good way from the sheer volume of applicants or just host their own key.
No problem. You can technically do kind of a dirty trick I may or may not have done in expansions past…
You can set your role (even swap to the role) of a tank or healer (tank is better) until you find the other…then set your role back to DPS or swap back to DPS. Usually the healer/tank stays and if questioned, just say you were considering trying the role to speed up the “queue” but are too intimidated to try it and sorry for any confusion.
Because NGL, a lot of tanks/healers only look for groups where the other is secured because, quite frankly, it’s just quicker that way and either role usually doesn’t wait very long.

Make your own group
0’s are meant to be the stepping stone into m+. If you can’t get into a group, make your own. This is one of the main reasons blizz hasn’t put 0’s into dungeon finder.

I mean sure but I actually did legitimally “discover” it because I was playing an ele shaman and tired of waiting along with 2 other DPS for a tank and healer so I swapped to healer to see if my bars/talents were set (I have a ton of toons and don’t always remember who does/did what) and almost immediately after I got the tank so I switched back and they did ask what I was doing and that was my explanation except replace intimidated with unprepared. The actual healer came around maybe 30 seconds later at most.
But I won’t lie. I absolutely did do this more than once after that point and intentionally so.
Edit - I almost exclusively play tanks and while I’ll join a group of 3 DPS if I’m going alone for the preferred dungeon, I do instinctually look for groups that have the healer since I know beyond any shadow of a doubt an otherwise qualified (even if barely) DPS will be far easier to come by for anything at any level than any kind of healer. I’m patient as I can be with helping/teaching people, but I hate waiting around doing nothing so groups with no healer rank somewhat less in my mind to a group that has the healer already in it.
Yes, and if every DPS is doing 250k dps, the healer will run out of CD’s before say a boss repeats the heal check and you wipe.
People forget, there are still dps checks that need to be met, just like heal checks! Just the fact that most people are skilled enough to do so, just not all
It’s kinda hard to justify taking lower geared people if you’re getting 640+ signing up for your groups.
I got my dh to 80 yesterday and after I bought some greens I tried some cheeky sign ups to tank M0s but got nowhere.
Ended up running two more delves, getting 612 ilvl and starting my own group. Thank goodness one of the dps was doing some big numbers cuz I was getting thrashed by mobs. One of the dps was a fire mage probably around 630-640? And he did less dps than my veng dh.
That seems hilarious. probably because you can delve for champ gear and get 2 auto cat slots right?
I have no clue why, maybe its the skill floor and ceiling of the spec but every fire mage I have ever played with in keys is either really cracked or the worst dps I have played with in a long time. Would never ever play with a fire mage in a low key.
People running 0’s aren’t there for progression. Like I said above, there are 2 types of people looking to run 0’s. Actually maybe 3.
Overgeared as hell people who may not realize or think about how their normal fill the vault runs will count for the weekly or maybe just want the heroic raid piece ASAP.
People who “hate mythic+/timers” (or more likely bad at the game) and staunchly refuse to do them. They’re only in mythic 0 because the raid item is too juicy of a prize to not do.
Undergeared as eff toons hoping to get carried and fed gear to jump into keys or have an easier time with delves (maybe even pug raids).
None of those 3 groups are going to be excited of the prospect of a reasonably geared (for a 0) run. Sure you may luck out and find a group wanting to do a casual but very much “prog” mythic 0 run “like the old days”…and by golly if by some miracle you all meet up, add each other on bnetand live out your dreams.
Fire mages, really any spec but ESPECIALLY fire mages, really lives and dies on the meters by the will/skill of the tank.
A fire mage NEEDS lots and lots of fresh/healthy bodies for their combust window and it used to be so important/practical that specific comps existed and even some mages run addons/cheap auras to keep the tank/group alert when their next combust CD will be available so ideally the group/tank prepares.
It is disgustingly sick when a skilled and geared fire mage pops off…far less in a pug where there is not that coordination or willingness to do it.
There really isn’t any failure for a +2 either since the key can’t deplete. It seems counter intuitive but it’s actually much easier to get a group for too and people will often even take someone in last season’s gear at least in my experience.
From what I have seen, the people doing zero’s are almost like rp’ers and are looking for “old school” type runs and so they have odd requirements that people don’t ask for in a key run. You also tend to run into more people who have zero idea what they are doing.
I understand that it’s all tied to combustion, so they need pulls to match their cooldowns. If they misplay their burst rotation then it’s bad news bears.
I am pretty sure a RIP’d combust window mystically plays that WOMP WOMP WOMP WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMPPPPPPPPP trombone sound that only they can hear mind-shattering loud in their heads.
Or maybe that price is right fail music when someone lost a game/the prize.

Gating on M+ is normal. You have to be competitive to get that open spot for pre-made groups.
Look at me, I made an effort to be competitive to be chosen from M+ PuGs. Early at Tuesday reset, I tried to apply for M+7s and I got denied many times. What I did was to farm for more Rune Crests and cap it to further upgrade some of my slots. Then I grinded for more Gilded Crests on Bountiful Tier 11 Delves to buy an Enchanted Gilded Undermine Crest to be able for a Crafter to make me an ilevel 675 Gun that propels me to ilevel 656. It gave me a chance to be more favorable to be invited for M+7. And it got me invited to 4x M+7s recently that got me KSM today. Woot!!!
