Mythic+ needs real incentives for tanks and healers

People who don’t tank because they’re anxious about other people have personal problems that Blizzard cannot fix.

Last I checked, the game only tracks your spec when the key is started. Even if we ignore that, one of many errors, this system encourages tanks to stop doing keys, not start. More gear or crests just means they finish what they are doing faster and leave.

The reason people don’t tank is they either do not want to do the role for the gameplay, or they do not want to be responsible for being the effective leader of the group. In either case, this does nothing to address that.

The last thing I want is someone who doesn’t want to tank, doesn’t know how to tank, and is counting on the rest of the group carrying them to flood key signups because suddenly there are powerful rewards for doing so.

If a tank shortage means the only people playing tanks are those who actually enjoy doing so and will perform well when you get one, that’s fine by me. Trying to entice people who don’t want to be the de facto group leaders into doing so is just going to make for more bad groups.

Yeah, the problem is that even the main tanks themselves are abandoning the role because they’re fed up lol

The only thing I’m fed up with is the mountain of dps who can barely do their one job, and make no effort to do anything outside of tunnelvisioning their sick 1.5M dps. Unless you make dps more competent or get them to stay out of keys they have no business in, I’m done once I’m capped on vault & crests for the week and there is nothing left to offer me.

There aren’t too few tanks, there are too many herpaderp dps.

any proof of this mass exodus?

I agree. I said above that this would just bring in an influx of trash players tanking because they want a reward and not because they actually want to tank.

Plus, there would be zero incentive for them to get better over time. People playing their role out of enjoyment will want to improve themselves to foster continued success. People picking up a tank for a mount will not perform the role well because, well, they aren’t tanks.

Not sure if this really would change tanking drastically or is going to be a major impact as most players uses add-ons, but it would be nice to have the dungeon maps and journals themselves display the percent a mob offers and displays general mob grouping and pathing.

I think for newer tanks, just having a few in game default path options offered to tanks operating in a similar manner to things like the races or quests would help, rather than off sourcing everything to add-ons.

Something like Mythic Dungeon Tools being available in game would be beneficial.

Nobody here mentioned a “mass exodus,” but it’s obvious there are fewer tanks. Just look around this very forum the evidence is right in front of you. Week after week, tanks are openly saying they’re fed up and walking away from the role because the pressure is too much and the experience is more frustrating than fun.

Tanks carry all the responsibility, one mistake and they get blamed for everything, while DPS and healer mistakes are shrugged off. In random groups it’s the same story: people chain pull, rush ahead, wipe the group, then point fingers at the tank. And despite literally holding the dungeon together, tanks rarely get any recognition or reward.

So don’t act like this is some exaggeration. Nobody said “mass exodus,” but the shortage is obvious. Or are you really going to argue the tank population is growing proportionally? Come on. The decline is plain to see, and pretending otherwise is just denial.

Neither I nor you have any insight whatsoever into the number of tank players in the game. the only one with that data is blizzard.

there’s no shortage of tanks for raids. the only place a shortage might exist is in m+. The solution to that is for more people to pick up a tank and roll with it.

This has nothing to do with game design and is exclusively a community-created issue.

The only incentive they could create would be to actually enforce etiquette. Player behavior is the problem, and the tools designed to mitigate it are being used to do more damage.

No moderation. No actual customer service of any kind. And people are allowed to behave however they want, unless majority rule is in your favor.

I loved running group content in FFXIV, but I won’t touch anything with randos in this game anymore. Not since M+ came out and they stopped investing in their customers.

Like, I loved healing challenging content back in my raiding days, but I’m out of practice. I enjoy tanking, too. But I’m not gonna practice with strangers, they’re too rude and/or impatient far too often.

So I’m not even gonna bother getting in there to do either of those things. Not in this game.

We don’t need Blizzard’s secret spreadsheets to know what’s happening. It’s like going outside and feeling fewer raindrops on your head, you don’t need the weather service to confirm that it’s raining less

I would absolutely LOVE for this addon to be native.

Build MDT into the game. Translate the route you create in the native MDT tool into a visible path you can follow in the dungeon, or highlight mob packs in some way.

Apart from necrotic, I agree.
I hated that affix on my self heal oriented tanks, but it was good on things like brm monk where you could just rop away or chi torpedo in and out while also having keg smash to keep dmg and aggro and so on.
I remember SL S1 somewhat fondly, only because of that.

The loss of the rotating affix system unfortunately removed a lot of replayability, which is why I personally miss them.
Now m+ in general have the same issue as raids and becomes stale in the exact same manner after like 2-3 months.

On topic:
I think things like HoA and its interesting enemy force or Streets and its postmaster room (where you should aggro everything and los them out) is what makes new tanks dread the role.

Idk how to fix that, but if tanking would require less homework (or little to none like the dps role), then we would have more tanks.
Maybe better ingame tools or something, so routes and pull sizes can somehow be more of a group effort even in pugs, than just the tank’s responsibility. MDT is good, but not everyone has it.

Otherwise, ppl will only bother if its absolutely necessary or if they are stupidly broken.

they already have a great incentive: they don’t have to wait very long for groups at most key levels. which is exactly why they’re even less likely to use a queued group finder.

This would actually be huge as far as taking some of the burden of homework off prospective tanks.
