Right, but this still results in both of the problems I outlined
Anyone who leaves a group where nobody is running the addon will not be counted. A player that has a disproportionate amount of groups without this addon won’t be accurately reflected.
Addons cannot send data over the internet directly from within WoW. That’s why every service you find that relies on player reported data has a companion app as well. The addon writes data to a file on your computer which the companion app can then read and send to the service. This allows for players to manipulate the file the addon is writing to in order to make things up about other players.
The Blizzard WoW API has been around since the very start of the game. The app you’re talking about read the data around raid and key completion and made that aggregation specific to raid and M+ available via a website. Additionally, they developed an addon that would read a nightly snapshot of the aggregated data to make it accessible in game; that’s the raider.io addon is updated every day.
The calculation of a score and putting that score directly into the game client was something Blizzard added later. But the data that raider.io used to function prior to that still came from Blizzard. Like Caelin said, you could have built your own visualization of that data yourself if you wanted; you didn’t need raider.io to come along to make use of it.
It wasn’t effective to begin with. People have the right to leave keys that aren’t going well. Instead of making up terrible systems maybe fix your bad play
It’s never been clear to me how folks define “leaver.”
Am I a leaver because I’m not interested in spending an hour in an Ara-Kara +10 because my group mates can’t seem to figure out how to not constantly be kissing the dirt?
I’m going to leave keys if they are a clear waste of my time, is this enough to brand me as a “leaver?”
problem is, why should someone be forced to stay in a key that is clearly gonna fail.
Why should I waste my time, my game time, on a group that is clearly garbage and not following mechanics.
Hmmm?
Come up with a legit system that will separate clowns clearly trolling keys and leaving, and people who flat out refuse to waste time in a garbage group.
