Old method of gearing was using some hours a week to raid, and the rest of your entire hour package for the week thrown into something like PvP, which at the time was worth it lol. Now, you might as well Raid then not engage further
Upgrades are upgrades when you’re literally fresh in an expansion. Nobody is going to be rushing in and banging out +15s because we all have to learn the dungeons and get some actual gear. Also, the IO scores are going to reset, and that means you’re going to get some degeneracy in the pugging because you can’t properly vet if somebody is a good player.
At most people will be doing +5-7s starting off and then once people gear up they’ll be pushing +10s and eventually towards +15. Doing a +15 might be the equivalent of doing a +20.
Why are we pretending like timing a +7 is difficult?
Groups will be getting 2 items from each +7 timed dungeon. IF the same group runs over and over, they will share loot. Honestly dude, you are not thinking about how people actually do this content. Maybe you don’t do it that way? I’m 100% sure me and my 4 friends will loot share and run Mythic+ nonstop for a week and be completely geared in no time.
You’re now moving the goal posts with an important word “ensure”. To ENSURE you get an upgrade every week is mathematically impossible. You can get three i226 pieces and none of them might be simm’d upgrades for you. To get an i226 piece, essentially Mythic-raid gear, you need only invest 15-20min a week. In the beginning, that will almost assuredly be an upgrade every single time.
Sure, by week 16 it probably won’t be an upgrade even half the times. If you want to get every possible choice on the Great Vault possible you’d have to play 100 hours a week. I can’t really see anyone but World First raiders doing that, and even then only for the first 3-4 weeks.
I’m not the one being disingenuous here - you are. Who the HELL is going to do literally everything? Pretty sure that wasn’t even remotely Blizzard’s intention. More like “here, get two choices in Shadowlands instead of one for some badluck protection”. The crazy people might farm out three options. If you’re farming out NINE great vault choices you need a psychiatrist.
Most people will be happy with their one. Especially for an alt. I’ll log in, do my one +10 dungeon on my rogue and call it a week. Pretty snazzy being i226 geared in nearly every slot after 3 months of playing 20min a week.
Depends on your situation - people are running 15’s on the beta at sub 200 item level. I also run with a group of 5, and we are able to complete a 15 in the timer at ~25 item levels lower than what the dungeons generally drop.
It’ll be far harder in a pug, maybe, depends on how many people you know.
I’d like to live in a world, where outside of the 20-min weekly reward, it’s worth it to still engage with the content… That’s why this entire thread even exists. We enjoy the content more than Raiding, and if we want to increase our player power we might as well Raid as a surrogate for itemization, to the actual difficult and fun content we would rather engage with. If you’re so “Raid is the GOAT”, then why not advocate for these systems and have less toxic raid groups full of people there for the fun of raiding on top of itemization?
Yeah, I’m just speculating right now. I’m ready to hit the ground running because this is literally like resetting me to a month ago where I had nothing and had to grind M+ to get where I am.
So doing 17s instead of 15s will only save you one week in the context of going for one specific Azerite piece. Any smart player would have pursued (likely better) gear via another avenue (Raid Azerite pieces tend to have strictly better traits, for example).
QED
TL;DR: You did it because you enjoy it and because you imagined a benefit which mathematically does not exist.
Okay, I got the item level wrong. But it really doesn’t change the argument. Which is you will need to do a tremendous amount of content to simply get 1 upgrade a week.
People with dedicated groups will be 210/213 item level in literally no time. 5 people running mythic + multiple times a day, for a week or two will be there in no time. You literally just said you’re clearing 15’s already on the beta.
That’s not accurate. If you just do the Mythic +, you’ll only have 3 items to choose from. So your “bad luck” protection is reduced. After a 3 weeks you could get screwed and get a 226 item for slots you already have. After that, you’ll def. need to do more content to ensure upgrades.
