I’m just thinking about trends & following the thought to its logical conclusion.
First we get follower dungeons. Which I think has positive benefits. One can use them to learn the basics of the new dungeons.
Next we get Delves promoting solo progression. The new ‘endgame pillar’. Which seems to be popular currently. It is solo or small group content.
Next I’ve seen a ton of posts about lack of progression in Mythic+ because many specs are not meta & are not getting picked.
Which leads me to the Equation 1+1+1=3
3 being follower Mythic+
Thus the only logical conclusion is Follower Mythic+ will be on the horizon.

3 person M+
Total death of paid carries.

              I guess I should have said 1+1+1+1=4 because of all the threads on the forum for people asking for greater rewards. Wanting crests to max out their Hero gear & more.
I know from an economic stand point Blizz/MS will want to keep players subscription rates as high as possible.

              It’s not. Delves are the logical conclusion to solo progression, because they are the solo progression pillar.               1+1+1+1+1=5. 5 being the Dad gamer. Most of the threads I read about Mythic+ is from the Dad gamer. They say they have limited time & say waiting around to be a “pick me please” to get a Mythic+ run eats up most of their limited game time. Follower Mythic+ solves their problem.
The thing about Dad gamers is they usually are in the prime of their careers & have disposable income for their hobbies.  A prime target for engagement metrics. Probably why Delves are a thing in the first place.

You cannot replicate the difficulty of group content by replacing group members with AI,   because a portion of the difficulty of group content is the shared responsibility. What’s the point of a healing requirement when the AI healer is just an NPC who has to be designed to overcome it regardless?
You can make hard solo content, you can make hard solo content sufficieintly comparable in difficulty to Mythic+ in terms of difficulty and rewards. But it would be a lot more work than just slapping NPCs into current dungeons.

But the learning together mentality is gone. One wipe and everyone just leaves. Effectively everyone is playing by themselves. They make a mistake and it’s over.

In a way they already have with Delves. T8 Delves puts one in 619 Hero Track gear making the next progression point T10 Mythic+.

There is no next progression point.

I agree they are not. And are the reasoning that led me to this conclusion. Even with various story mode Delves have limited replayability. Delves also have another development costs that the massive amount of existing dungeons do not.

Then that lucrative Dad gamer demographic unsubscribes till the next season.
The basic business model is to keep the subscriptions active. Inactive subscriptions do not add to the bottom line.
