I can’t wait to play Defias Brotherhood on the Horde!
They’re totally not humans – Th - Th - They have a different political alignment! ![]()
There’s also the thing with blood elves and fel addiction
That has absolutely —
NOTHING
to do with their namesake …
The majority of High Elves and the High Elven kingdom willingly changed their name from High Elves to ‘Blood Elves’ → To honour the blood spilled by their kin, to honour their sacrifice, the fallen, their heritage & culture. That’s it.
It has nothing to do with:
- Their eyes.
- Their relationship with nature
- Their relationship with magic
- or their relationship with the Horde / Alliance.
Such ordeals of mild schisms & disagreements came far later — But they prodominantly share the same culture, history and biology.
The eyes
The fel-eyes thing was merely from amounts of fel-radiation that came from the fel-crystals that powered their structures in their kingdom, as they no longer had the Sunwell @ the time & the structures were maintained by magic.
The radiation was light in comparison to other more permanant forms (such as the orcs) and with the aid of the Sunwell was able to be cured of.
Lorewise speaking — a designated “High Elf” in fel-saturated areas of Outland could had been around enough fel-energies long enough that they’d get fel-eyes too. However the title is merely political, so would change little to nothing for their namesake. ![]()
Likewise, although it wasn’t shown in gameplay there very well could had been Blood Elves who were away from Quel’Thalas, such as those living in Dalaran — who had sustained blue eyes. Again, this would change little to their titled race, as the namesake has nothing to do with that.
But there’s about the same amount of separation between Lightforged and Draenei as there is between High Elves and Blood Elves, and they’re both playable.
Not really no, because the Lightforged were changed on a cosmic scale by the light — Like the void elves were by the void … Blood Elves were not.
Biological and cosmological differences
Void Elves:
- Void Elves, were altered by the void and subsequently changed on a cosmic scale akin to how the Highborne Nightelves were by the Nightwell to become Nightborne.
Blood Elves:
- Blood Elves however, have no cosmic or biological difference to those who still identify as ‘High Elves’ whatsoever … Their difference is political only.

Thanks for coming to my Thalassian Ted talk.
