My problem with FF14 proselytizers

Ffxiv and WoW both have strengths and weaknesses imo. I think the issue is a lot of players play both and want to borrow ideas from each game to try improve things they feel are lacking in each game. Currencies to buy gear is something a lot of people want in WoW and it is something ffxiv has. In ffxiv, people asked for mythic +/challenge type dungeons that WoW has. The difference is FFXIV devs are adding criterion dungeons (challenge mode) for 1-4 players because they listen to player feedback.

As far as combat goes, both games have gcds. WoW combat rotations aren’t really faster than ffxiv. Ffxiv classes have ogcd that get weaved into the rotation. One unfortunate thing about leveling in ffxiv is that most jobs don’t have a lot going on until after 60 when your real rotation starts getting built on and it doesn’t get all abilities until max level.

Ffxiv glamour system leaves a lot to be desired, but so does WoWs xmog. Ffxiv has dyeable gear which is more fun than farming recolors. Ffxiv also has a lot of jewelry choices. I have over 100 jewelry pieces in my glam dresser. WoW xmog system is nice because it’s account wide and ffxiv is only that character. WoW also doesn’t make you hold onto to every piece you want to glamour. I do like glamour plates in ffxiv, but that isn’t necessary in WoW.

Ffxiv housing is an issue still. Even with the lottery system that’s coming, it’s going to be a hot mess again. If WoW ever adds player housing, please don’t let it be anything like ffxiv.

FF14 didn’t grip me at all. I slogged until lvl 50 because I heard it gets so much better but it never did, couldn’t take it anymore so I quit. Boring gameplay loop/story, cringe character animations (I know it’s japanese but come on), boring combat even though ninja is my favorite concept in all MMOs with the ninjutsus and finally lack of race variety.

The character creation and music are incredible, but that’s not keeping me engaged.

So you didn’t engage with anything outside the base game (ARR) and didn’t start Heavensward, where the story/voice acting/cutscene quality skyrockets? 50-60 is also when most jobs actually start getting oGCDs and more fleshed out rotations both in terms of # of abilities and their job gauges.

It’s like leveling to 15 in WoW and determining your class feels empty and boring to play.

Leveling to 15 in WoW takes less than 2 hours and even then, it’s fun even though the class is not complete. Getting to lvl 50 and I got other classes to 30 for a title took me more than 25 hours, that’s a lot of time and I was so freaking bored. I just don’t care anymore.

Don’t worry about missing anything.
I played Heavensward and found it much worse than A Realm Reborn (don’t listen to anyone saying that HW is the bees’ knees, that’s pure imagination and hype).
Stormblood was a senseless mess and I quit the game at mid-expansion.
Read synopses of Shadowbringers and Endwalker and my face fell on the desktop.

In ffxiv you really only want to do the msq or you start to outlevel the story. Your experience is a common one for new players. Coming from WoW when leveling is only a way to get to end game it’s different than Ffxiv. Ffxiv wants you to experience the story.

The story is slow in ARR. Right now they are revamping the 1-50 content and adding trusts (npcs that take the spots of players in dungeons) to help with this. Even at 50 the patches between ARR and HW are still slow currently. Hopefully the changes they are making will make it more fun for new players.

But muh “best story of all time” like some people say… I’m happy that you’re giving me your opinion and telling me it’s not that good, I know there’s no bias here. I wasn’t sure if I was missing out but it seems like there’s a lot of exaggeration when people talk about the story post ARR. Also, “50-60 is also when most jobs actually start getting oGCDs and more fleshed out rotations both in terms of # of abilities and their job gauges.” Can’t believe people say this is, if you have to play more than 20 hours just for the game to even feel “acceptable” to play… That’s not good.

I don’t care if it’s slow or not. If it’s good I’ll do it all and I’ll be happy that it didn’t end quickly. Sadly, the gameplay loop and the story were soo boring.

I’m very accustomed to playing RPGs where it takes well over 20 hours before your character(s) begin to feel powerful.

Also, don’t pretend that it doesn’t take well over 20+ hours to farm the gear needed to make WoW classes not feel like trash with the way they’ve been pruned so hard over the past several expansions. So much so that you need to engage with whatever garbage throwaway power system to make a class feel somewhat complete and fun to play.

Or do you forget how horrible your class plays when you freshly hit level cap in a new expansion and your haste is under 5%?

My problem has always been the people preaching about how much certain things are better in FFXIV when they’re honestly better in either WoW or other games. There’s far too many people that basically refuse to point to downsides in the game or how certain content is bad, even when the new haircuts got shown to be basically copy-pasted haircuts from other stuff that… actually entirely removes certain races ears and so forth there were people still defending it going “Just be happy you’re getting something!”

But, the same is also true for WoW. There are people that will sit and defend every little thing about the game including people griefing others without recourse. People that refuse certain things that are good in FFXIV to coming to here because it’s a different game like how much better their community moderation is even for stuff like people being removed from dungeon groups for no reason.

You can come at me with all those reasons, but my hunter felt good from the moment I only had steady shot and arcane shot. For this sub rogue here, it felt rough until I got shadow dance and some passives like deepening shadows, shadow techniques and relentless strikes. Can’t say it got that better with gear and the borrowed power, I’m happy with what I’ve got most of the time in here. Also, I never talked about “powerful” I said acceptable. I like being a weakling in the beginning as long as it feels fun to play. The power just comes later but that’s to be expected in a rpg. FF14 combat never felt acceptable to me, but it’s okay. You like the game, I don’t so let’s stop it at that alright?

The story in ffxiv is great. ARR is just slow to get there and skipping cutscenes isn’t going to help you love the story. You don’t have to watch the story if you don’t want to. Some people skip cutscenes and go back and watch them later in the Inn or just decide story isn’t for them. I personally like cutscenes and dialog in my games. I wish WoW had more cutscenes.

Ffxiv stories, even side quests and content are usually well written and fun, but that’s mostly for people who enjoy quests. For people that think quests are a waste of time ffxiv isn’t going to be something they enjoy. Ffxiv also has side content like crafting/gathering, cross over events, housing, a casino. A lot of people engage in this content. The overall theme of the game isn’t go, go, go like WoW. It can be off putting to some players who are used to the WoW race to endgame.

TO be able to survive WoW for that long? Yeha thanks.

Nah I would say the problem is that WoW moved away from being a casual, easy humorous game to trying to be a serious hardcore game like earlier MMORPGs were. WoW just isnt se tup to be that.

FFXIV just meshes together all at the same level. it’s semi-serious including the story.

Both are different but both are good. I would love it if WoW would simply go back to be humorous with their story and stop trying so hard to be a hardcore game.

I’ll have to look at some videos to get a recap at least, but I’m not going back to play that’s for sure…

In your freaking dreams maybe.

WoW subs are going down faster than a gold digger on a dying billionaire.

I have one character in ffxiv. I also didn’t like how long it took to get to HW. I completely understand and don’t judge anyone for not liking ARR or using skip potions to get to HW. It’s a known issue with that part of the game. They are addressing it now and changes are coming to it in 6.1

I also like ESO. It has a lot of story in it. The combat is fun for me, but it’s different than ffxiv and WoW tab targeting type combat. Ffxiv might not be a game for you and that’s ok. People like different things

It’s funny that people keep insisting this happens when it’s mostly just people saying FF14 did not impress them.

The ff14 fanboys really take it personally if you don’t concede that FF14 is superior (it ain’t.)

I’m amazed at how cult like ff14 players are for what is essentially a decent MMORPG, but an overall mediocre game.

In your case, both, I guess.

IDK about final fantasy 14, I been nerding out on some of the pixel remasters myself.
