My new WoW Killer build 🄓

i’ve seen some reviews with the new samsung 32:9 super-ultrawide, and apparently wow looks utterly amazing if your desk space/battlestation has enough room for you to sit at the right distance for the curve of the display. a flat one, i don’t know if i’d want to go much wider than 16:9

The monitor I have is actually in the same series but the model below that one (CHG70 vs CHG90), I actually eyeballed that one back when I originally bought mine, however mine is 1440, as unfortunately the 32:9 super ultrawide is only 1080 resolution, and that was the main reason why I prefer mine over that one (also on top of the extra $450 cost at the time)… I had my mind set on getting a 1440 and am happy with my decision

However Samsung did eventually release a 1440p variant, the CRG9, however it’s expensive AF and drops the refresh rate to 120hz, and also LG and Dell got on board with making a 32:9 display but they are only 60Hz

yeah, they have a new one out, a successor to the CHG90, the CRG90. it’s 1440, and dells 32:9 model uses samsung’s screen(i think LG makes their own, but dell doesn’t)
sadly, the CRG90 has been at least 1200 bucks everywhere i’ve looked, and even at that price it sells out and you can’t hardly find supply

also the refresh rate increased in the new model too, the CHG90, much like my CHG70 was 1ms response time, and unfortunately the new model increased that to 4

i don’t know that you’d notice that in wow, but in other games like shooters you definitely would. maybe even in wow if you do arenas or run high keys

I like the color scemes, it’s a total ACE of a computer, kind of matches my Trans themed PC.

edit: My system is a bit older, but water cooled, delid, and these stats: https://i.imgur.com/nGDHhxZ.png

Most people play with monitors in that range (or higher) anyways, so no big deal  but just to mention in case you’re the type who is an*l about that spec… I don’t care about response time as long as it’s not some pre-2010 numbers… 6ms and lower is fine by me, I care more about what matters most, refresh rates over 72, resolution (1440 or higher), and color accuracy (94%+ Adobe and sRGB please).

Trans themed :)? any pics?

and yay SLI, I had originally planned for a SLI build, and had dual Aorus 1080 Ti Waterforces a week before I decided to start building this new PC (they were my first purchase)…

As seen here during my experimental/testing stage with the previous PC build I had…

…lol the mess of wires.

However when I discovered that you have to set WoW to DX11 for SLI to work (for WoW to actually utilize both GPUs instead of one sitting idle with DX12), and just one card was good enough to hit the performance target I was after, the second was just beyond pointless overkill… Also when I realized I could just get a 2080 Ti for the price I paid for the two 1080 Tis, but really no point since a 2080 Ti isn’t that much of a performance improvement (~15-20%) over a 1080 Ti… it just didn’t justify the extra cost, So I ended up just returning one of the cards, and instead used that money to upgrade other parts in my build that I originally didn’t plan on upgrading (motherboard, cpu aio cooler, case, etc).

Not really. I should, but I’m lazy, and my phone needs a charge, maybe tonight if I remember. My long time roommate/Platonic best friend made the computer before he took a job out of state. The goal was so I could play at max settings on some Bioware game which turned out to be a flop, I really hate what EA did to Bioware. Also that game had huge issues supporting SLI after it launched, so yah, never really got to fully use it, and I can run WOW on max settings without it. But hey The lights are Lavender, pink, and blue. I get the trans effect with them because of the reflection on the wall from the lights. Sadly only visible at night, when I turn off the other lights.

Sounds spiffy  I should try that lighting scheme :stuck_out_tongue:

What kind of FPS do you get maxxed out in Orgrimmar/Ironforge with hundreds of people running around?

That’s a beaut, my computer is just about to turn 2.

I just recently upgraded all my HDD to SSD in her.

In WoW it hops around between 80-110 fps in the major cities such as Stormwind flying or 120ish if I am on the ground, Ironforge can hit my cap of 144 but IF is virtually empty compared to SW on Sargeras. Boralis on the otherhand, it’s between 60-70

In Classic WoW, it’s at g-sync/monitor refresh rate cap at 144 or slightly lower (but seems to always be in the 100+ range) most everywhere.

Welcome to the speed of SSD :stuck_out_tongue: I’m guessing you’ve noticed a big speed increase in load times?

Just wait for the day when you can make the jump to NVMe, for even faster loadtimes over a sata SSD and magnitudes over HDD

Well now… I just scored the deal of a lifetime and made a change to my system:
