Hey guys just wondering if anyone else is having this issue. I am in my 30’s and I do pretty well in game. Clear heroic and do a little bit of mythic as well as 3200 last season.
However, I am finding after a few M+ dungeons or a 3 hour odd raid my hands a killing me. Could be just me but the APM of classes feel like it is just increasing, I feel button bloat is also a factor here.
And so much relying on perfect rotation and buff tracking. I feel for anyone playing in there 50’s nowadays and have no idea how you guys are doing it.
I’m pushing middle age now and i can really only take 2-3 hour sessions at a time, after that my performance really starts to tank because I’m thinking more about my sore hands or my numb butt than i am the game mechanics lol
the OBR is just the start. Soon WoW will be playable by NeuraLink and similar devices / cyberware.
Btw in many sci-fi novels appealing to disabilities is exactly how this type of tech becomes mainstream and normalized even in healthy individuals. It is a great future, we live in a time where nootropics should be the norm by now at least.
I tore tendons in my wrist two years ago and that injury def. started to flare up again from gaming. Been taking it easy on that hand.
Torn tendons are one of the worst injuries for healing. Doesn’t show up on an xray, orthopedists say "just rest it.’ Well I’ve been babying that hand for two years now. Luckily not my dominant hand, but for gaming, right hand is very dominant unless you shift everything to lefty controls.
Lymphatic drainage exercises and adequate amount of everyday movement, do not forget it people. You will see yourself forced to take it up when it is too late.
Remember that Joni Mitchell song where she sang “you dont know what you got till its gone”
As someone in their 50s, it’s definitely getting harder and harder to keep up with all that’s happening in the game. Don’t think that kyveza will be possible as my eyesight has gone done the tubes.
I’m with you on that one, i gave it one crack when i first got the quest but it was super sunny outside and and the room my PC is in was too bright so i couldn’t make out all of the smaller details of the scene. I thought to myself that i’ll come back later tonight instead of closing the blinds, so i came back and still got one shot by something i couldn’t see lol
I went and got my glasses and thought i better have another look, one shot again by something i didn’t see. I’m more than capable of standing in good things, not standing in bad things, move here, move there blah blah blah, but having lightning fast reflexes to keep dodging something that i can’t really see happening is not the fight for me
Just to be clear, I’m not asking for it to be nerfed or anything, i just think that it’s another piece of content that i have grown out of being capable of. To be honest, i think if the green fire warlock stuff were to drop today instead of back when it did, I’m not sure i’d have it in me for that either… such is life.
The best thing you can do is train yourself to play the game without pressing a button during GCD 5-20 times. I know we want to cast as fast as humanly possible, but we also need to recognize that it’s not good for us to do that long term lol.
The next best thing you can do is ensure you have good posture when you sit down at the desk. Are your arms flat on a surface? Are your elbows close to your body? Is your back straight? Do you have your peripherals oriented in a way where you don’t have to strain/twinge your neck to see?
Beyond that…I highly recommend trying out some forearm exercises, anything that will help strengthen/work your wrist muscles. Grip trainers are great for this. If you can just make your muscles in the wrist a bit stronger (the exercise also just gets the muscle working and moving) it can help tremendously when it comes to repetitive strain. Another thing that can help is working on your wrist flexibility…there is a wide variety of exercises you can do for this.
I totally get feeling strain in the hands when playing the game. About a year and a half ago, I was noticing it starting to get to my hands, playing Protection Paladin and having to spam Blessed Hammer/Judgement constantly was starting to wear on my hands quite badly. By following my own advice above, I was able to reduce that strain a lot.
Another thing I highly recommend is wrist-stabilizing gloves/sleeves while you play high APM games like WoW, any MOBA or FPS. It reduces the inflammation a lot.
I would very much appreciate if those adds were just a bit brighter or outlined. It’s all purple, red and black and I’m having a bit of trouble identifying them right away.
Use an mmo mouse like the Logitech/Logicool G600 so you can bind your rotation to the thumb buttons instead of smashing the mechanical keyboard like a teenager.
Pick a class with lower APM, like Survival hunter, Sin, Feral, Warlock or Deva.
Feral does require weak auras because there’s no in-game tracking of bleed empowerment but all of these classes are brain dead easy and not too fast.
What’s amazing to me is that people think you can actually sit and do repetitive movements for hours on end and NOT end up feeling it in your hands or whatever is doing the repetitive motion LOL.
People end up with carpal tunnel who set at keyboards all day hours on end and I know they do because my mom had to have the surgery because of just that
There’s nothing abnormal about your hands bothering you or your wrists or your shoulders or even your back in my case when you’re sitting at a computer for hours on end banging keys
Nothing needs to be changed about the game to fix this people just need to get up and walk away from the computer from time to time
I feel this. Had some other stuff going on, so not actually set down to dive into S3 enough to delve grind yet, but I know this will be an issue for me. XP
It’s not just that my vision is crap - it’s always been crap since birth, so I can usually get around that someway. It’s moreso that my eyes jerk constantly and that causes my brain to take longer to visually process things, especially if they’re moving. (I can’t read scrolling credits, for example.) So things like this are just awful.
The Hexxos boss took me forever to get down. I was close to deeming that one impossible, but after like god-only-knows how many attemps, I finally lucked up and got a pattern set which was mostly comprised of the easier-to-see lines and not so many layered spirals.
But yeah, that’s 100% a thing. And it is annoying because you know you’re good enough to handle it - as in you’re quick enough and smart enough or w/e, but the brain or eyes have this one derp feature that screws it all up. XD
And as for the people talking about hand pain and such … yeah, I think that’s why a lot of esports people retire at around 28 at the latest. I definitely cannot go as long as I could as a teen or in my 20s. Heck, I noticed tapping the phone screen repeatedly for Pokemon Go raid battles actually hurts. It’s like gah, getting older needs a nerf.
pick up the SBA and never look back … 80% is just freedom and fun … play everyclass and enjoy … as long as you dont try +22’s your fine … and if you play ele sham or Ret you can even do more
I still find wow ok. I have very well established muscle memory for basicslly every spec I play. Though that has been tested with the recent frost dk changes. There’s not too many button or anything. But some of the spells have swapped from cooldown to regular use. It’s messing me up a bit.
I do think it’s a bit funny though that blizz are making such strides in improving accessibility in the game just in time for a large part of the audience to reach middle age and beyond. Many of these accessibility features will likely prove just as useful to people simply debilitated by aging and not just those with pre-existing disabilities.
I am 65 now, I had to drop raiding etc in my 50s, just could not keep up anymore. Heh, OBR was a dps increase for me these days. That would not have been true when I started raiding in TBC.
I would argue that while aging is not the same as being born with differences, or suffering an accident or illness, it all falls into the same category. It all falls under a lesser ability or…disability, depending on how severe and the life impact.
Regardless of why it happened, your body does not work optimally anymore. My eyesight and hands are my issue these days. Stupid arthritis and vision changes. Makes a lot of things harder and really does mess up anything that takes fine motor control or close vision.
Accessibility options are really for everyone. It gives folks more options for how they want to access and control the things they use. It is a win for everyone.
Random non-game thought. They should make the grab bars in bathrooms mandatory for building code. I don’t care what age you are, falling is easy to do, and everyone has sprained an ankle, thrown out a back, twisted a knee, etc. It is not just something for “old people”. It is a basic QoL for everyone.
You are right. I didn’t mean to imply that age related issues can’t also lead to “actual” disabilities. I was just making the distinction between the age-related kind and the not. Clumsily
