I did this exact same thing. I bought a whole other set thinking it would be nice to have different runes with a gear change and then the server alert went out saying these items would be deleted. So I sold them back to the vendor to get my gold back. Come Tuesday all my original T2 was deleted, including bracers I picked up from the undermine real vendor after the PTR thing went away.
There are logs of this character in full T2 from more than a month ago. This is real scenario that hit a lot of people.
