My Disconnecting Solution

Ok, lets try a different method of explaining. My DHCP release time was set at 9pm. I waited until 5am and then I reset the modem. Now my DHCP is set for 5am when I don’t use the computer as much. Now, If your modem is not doing that after you have done this then I suggest you get in contact with your ISP and explain why you need the DHCP release time changed.

This is not a WoW issue this is a MODEM issue which lies with your ISP. So if you want to be angry and whatnot then get on the phone with the people you PAY and make them work for it.

didn’t mean to come off angry just some times people don’t read the post thoroughly. I will have to wait till this evening unfortunately because my mother works from home and theres only one modem (side note: she’s either not getting the dcs or not noticing them)

Edit a day later: still getting disconnected after leaving the modem unplugged for an hour.

I guess I am not the only one. Who has been having this issue

i know this isn’t the ideal solution but you guys who rent modems from ISPs should go out and buy your own modem and a router, this way you get more control out of your devices and you don’t have to pay them the monthly rental fee. over time the modem and router will pay for themselves. i would be extremely irritated if a tech came out and said they couldn’t modify the DHCP lease timer…that is so incredibly easy to do

welp. this is officially my life. called the isp, they cant fix it, they dont think i should be losing connection and they see nothing wrong. so guess i play around hourly disconnects until i can order a new computer

a new computer won’t solve the issue if your modem/router is the one handing out addresses via dhcp. you could always try to set a static IP on your computer to see if that fixes it instead.

hit windows key + R, in the box type cmd and hit enter. in the box type ipconfig and hit enter
look for your ipv4 address, will look like 192.168.x.x or 10.0.x.x or something
also look for your subnet mask and default gateway. write these down on a notepad or something.
hit windows key + R again this time type in ncpa.cpl and hit enter
find your Local Area Connection that is connected. right click this and go to properties. double click the internet protocol version 4 text. choose Use the following IP address and write in your IPv4 address, subnet mask, and default gateway that you copied earlier into the notepad or wherever you put it. this should effectively stop your router from handing you a dhcp address, and hopefully stop the disconnects.

I did this step for step. Unfortunately it didn’t fix my issue… guess ill try more trouble shooting in the morning.

Tried to fix the problem in the router settings but didn’t seem to work. I have a TP link router with comcast cable.

Any other solutions?

Sorry your ISP is being inept Missymoo. You need to get them on the phone and point them in the direction of the forums or FORCE them to read the forums about the disconnects involving Arris Modems.

Do not take some front line person who has no clue about these things you need to make them escalate the situation. I know its a pain trust me I spent 6 months escalating and forcing them to send techs to my house and finally they got sick of me constantly harassing them and fixed the issue. My issue was a bit more involved then this issue but being persistent, nicely I might add and with a flair of drama, does get on their nerves. Plus I was forcing them to discount my bill every week because the issue was not fixed.

I pay for a service and if that service is not working as intended you better believe I’m gonna make that company spend resources and their time and money. They want to waste my time on the phone I will waste theirs by demanding a tech and supervisor each call I make.

I am getting disconnect at every hour. I call my local internet company and they said everything is fine. I did all the recommended steps to fix the problem. And it still not working. How do i fix this problem? Is this problem going to be fix in the next patch? I have an Arris Modem. My internet company told me not to worry about the time lease. They even reset the modem for me to help with the problem. The problem is still there. I even had them put a new router in. This all started about a month ago. :grinning:

Is NETGEAR a good modem to use?
