The good ol’days! I dont see an issue with that at all. However, you dont have to reroll in typically MMO fashion, as Blizzard is giving you a way to choose differently with a bit of grind.
Seriously?
I mean, I expect them to pull something perpetually to tick players off…ion seems to get a perverse kick from it…but are they literally trying to force me to stay in one spec ?
Well no. You just have to pick which one to be good at and which one to be slightly less good at.
For instance, if I wanted to go Night Fae as a DK because I like it and the ability is cool for Unholy, I have to be okay with the fact that the DK ability has literally no interaction with Frost. I guess it be what it be
No - they’re trying to force you to create and level multiple characters of the same class in order to play in another spec; even if it’s just to try it out.
ah…ok…so business as usual.
Why didn’t they just put them in as talents? The abilities look so cool. Why did they not just add it to our classes to have people look forward to that? We used to get talents and abilities in past expansions, and then they pruned it. It would be okay to add 2 more rows, in fact I believe most people would welcome it.
Youre asking the wrong guy. I dont like Mythic+.
oh, ok, just asking since it was part of your post or perhaps you meant pug raiding? not really sure i guess at this point lol.
I literally said pug raiding, lol.
I’m literally holding my cheeks… and shaking.
lolol. ok. still never see it so ok then?
Because they get more value in character count, sub count, time-played, etc. by forcing us to make multiple toons to enjoy the game the way we want to play it.
It’s like a “time tax” we have to pay in addition to the cost of the game and our monthly subscription cost.
This has not yet been addressed yet as far as I know. Does anyone doing the Alpha know about switching covenants and renown? It’s possible we may be locked in our covenant until we get flight if the renown doesn’t stay when you change.
edit found some stuff. https://www.wowhead.com/guide=10591/renown-progressing-within-your-chosen-covenant#comments
What is Renown?
Renown is a Covenant specific progression system that will measure and build your standing with your chosen Covenent. Renown builds your Trust within your Covenant, influences your connection to your Soulbinds , and allows your progression in repairing (upgrading) your Sanctum . Unlike the two APs (Artifact Power and Azerite Power) in the previous expansions, Renown is not an open-ended grind , it is a metered progression system that you will work through as you play the game.
Earning Renown
There are three ways to earn Renown:
-
You will gain a level of Renown for every Chapter of your Covenant Campaign that you complete.
-
You will be offered a weekly quest to gather Anima for deposit in your Sanctum.
-
You will be offered a second weekly quest to enter The Maw and rescue Tormented Souls who belong under your Covenant’s purview.
Much like Corruption Resistance for the Legendary Cloak in Battle for Azeroth, there will be a weekly cap on the maximum Renown that a character can earn.
For more information on topics related to Renown, check out these detailed guides:
Renown Catch-up System
There are catch-up systems already in place for players who are behind, have switched Covenants, or are playing alts. These characters will be able to earn additional Renown through max level gameplay, Dungeons, Raids, PvP, and Callings (the new Emissary Quests), until they reach the current Renown cap."
Shadowlands Pathfinder
As with all recent expansions, the ability to fly in Shadowlands will not be immediately available. Players will need to experience the world at ground level, explore the environment, complete zone quests, and progress to max level as the game was intended to be played. The good news for flying aficionados is that a method for earning flying is already in place. Like the previous few expansions, a Pathfinder achievement will need to be earned. An interview that HazelnuttyGames conducted with John Hight revealed that complains about rep grinds for previous Pathfinder achievements were taken into account and that Renown will instead play a part in unlocking flying.
You know its already abit damning that we dont have a 60 talent row, I thought that was the entire point of the lvling squish, Also Towelliee agreed with the whole “It would be better if they were talents” and when that happens welll… You get the rest.
Off topic slightly: I swear if this is just a “Look we are changing it aint we good now?” stunt by blizzard i swear to god.
Same. It would make more sense. I think another talent row would be hype.
It’s not, but I wish you were right. They’re way too deep into this system now to go back.
I personally think it would look stupid for someone with Kyrian transmog to use weird Maldraxxus death looking abilities. I just don’t get the decision to not make these talents.
just have the “covenant NONCLASS abilities” be zone wide or just something else I mean lore wise you undergo some ritual to get them. so Why not keep them?
Read the Last Paragraph if you’re in a rush. The bulk of my writing explains how Blizzard successfully reaches that question.
I see this as an attempt to kill the “meta”. Since so much of endgame content is groups forcing top DPS down each other’s throats. The only way to end this toxic behavior is to kill off the meta entirely. And the only to do that is to make it so that you can’t be optimized for any given content.
You can’t optimize for all Mythic+‘s. Because each dungeon has unique challenges. The only way to min-max is to specialize so hard, that your setup can only answer a few dungeons at perfection.
Why is that GOOD???
Because the community can’t actually keep up with that kind of hard specialization. The amount of players who play Mythic+ is very large. The amount of players who enforce fotm for Mythic+ is also very large. But the amount of players who pursue ONLY Mythic+ is actually very small. Who don’t pursue any other content throughout the life of an expansion. Very small.
The Soulbinds/Conduits system guarantees that, in order to ACTUALLY achieve meta, you will have to give up ALL of your builds to accomplish this. You will have to give up ALL other game modes to be META in Mythic+. In RBG. In Arenas. In Raids. Even some Dungeons will have to be given up to optimize.
The players rage, because they know they aren’t willing to become a one trick pony. That’s the point. The amount of FOTM players are presently very high. But come Shadowlands, by very intentional design, the pool of FOTM players able to gatekeep, will drop IMMENSELY. There will still be a few who are willing to commit to that extent. But there will be such a small population, that gate keeping can’t happen to the same extent. The population at large, if you want to get your groups together in any decent amount of time, will be forced to give up gate keeping.
Blizzard has presented a fascinating question. Are you willing to give up all forms of content for the sake of gate keeping? Or will you give up gate keeping for the sake of doing all the content that you want? Blizzard has essentially said that they are done with the META Sheep style of community. If you need this type of game, WoW is no longer that game. Players will either accept that the meta is dead, and play, or they will leave the game. Either one builds the community that Blizzard wants.
I’m ok with that.
Nah, that’s not how metas work.
The restrictions enforce the “meta” theme. With the limitations, players will just go with whatever performs the best and have no option to play for fun or diversity.
Today - if you want to push yourself, you can CHOOSE to spec/talent/etc. to the meta. And then for the rest of the time when you’re just playing for fun, meme’s, etc., you can CHOOSE to spec/talent/etc. for whatever fits your fancy.
With the restrictions - if a player EVER wants to perform well, they get funneled to the “meta” covenant and conduit setup.
It’s not , it just ruins huge sections of the game for a lot of people.
