The condiment came out before the weapon, just saying. The weapon was used in WW 1, while mustard was put on what was called Hot Dauchshunds at baseball games. Also, it became known as a hot dog simply because of a cartoonist name Thomas Nast drawing a cartoon at a 1881 baseball game, and not knowing how to spell Dachshund, and wrote hot dog instead.
