A slightly senior coworker of mine was a very huggy guy I generally tried to avoid when possible. I was eating during my break in the break room one night when he came in, grabbed his drink from the fridge behind me, then open-mouth kissed me on the back of my neck. I was absolutely shocked and frozen in place. There was another person in the room and after the offender (Jim) left the break room, I asked if she saw what happened. She said, “Did he kiss you?” I said yes and just sat in silence.
Next day I went in on my day off and reported it to my supervisor. I was afraid and anxious and tearful when telling her. She said she’d handle it and she made sure he was never in the same department with me.
The next shift I worked, everyone knew about it. I had at least three female coworkers tell me it wasn’t a big deal, “That’s just how Jim is.” I felt embarrassed and humiliated. I get why people don’t report incidents. I have other experiences I never reported. Sometimes it feels like you’ll be better off just ignoring it.
And none of you did anything about it? You all just let it happen? No one said its not the place to do that even if you are enjoying it just like full blown intercourse on your desk isnt fit for the workplace?
Thats what makes people say bs on a lot of these things. Why isnt anyone doing anything about it? You have the claims, you have many people who see it and are uncomfortable with it, so why arent you all doing something about it?
This stuff is rare, it should be taken seriously, but acting like its this rampant problem is just false.

I’ve been in the workforce for over 30 years. Over 10 years in Human Resources. I can count the sexual harassment situations I had to deal with on my hands. Maybe a toe or two. They were RARE, because most people don’t do this kind of crap.
