Mount Hunters: How Do You Stay Motivated?

I’m only 15 mounts away from getting my hands on (IMO) the most beautiful mount in the game:

Without spending money for store mounts, I’m going to spend time in old raids/instances on multiple characters to farm for mounts.

For those of you who do this weekly, what advice do you want to pass on to stay motivated when running the same instances 5+ times a week chasing after mount drops?

Thanks!

Good luck

I got that one on my second try hehe

I’m still farming the Onyxian drake though. It’s difficult to stay motivated, but at least it’s easy to do.

Variety. Don’t hammer the same place for too long or you will end up putting a rifle in your mouth.

Go after one for a bit then jump to a different one. Do that one for a bit and go to a third. By the time you have hit the third one for a few weeks to a month you will realize you haven’t done the first one in a bit and go back.

7 on my warlock, I think it’s only 4 on my Paladin.

I wouldn’t say I’m a mount collector, but I have a nice collection and a few Out of Print mounts, ie the OG Brewfest.

By not doing ones that are annoyingly long.

I’ve found running old dungeons and raids with friends more fun and actually gets me into said old dungeons and raids.

Not sure what this says of me, but when I first read the title I was wondering why we were mounting hunters.

I have about 30 toons i can park at different instances. Some mog farm, some farm mounts, and some collect dust.

I mastered the art of giving up.

My younger daughter is good at that too. Took her to stratholme to try for the Baron’s mount. First run ends, no mount and she got really upset and announced “This game is impossible. I am going back to tame wild animals.”

I believe she has managed to fill all of her pages with lynxes from Eversong Woods and two bears.

Aww, baby mount collector! Good luck there. 300 is nuthin.

I’m working towards 400. I can’t get dungeon/raid drop mounts for nothing…my friend calls it The Vix Curse. Mounts don’t drop when I’m trying for a mount.

I’m not that dedicated tho. Been trying for years YEARS. You can suffer disappointment only so many times a year. I usually get a mount if I don’t know the boss even dropped one. Like Huolon or the South Wind Drake (?).

Good luck. Did you get all the goat mounts from Argus and the little chicken ones from the long pet battle questline in Legion? I’m not gonna research your collection. =P

I don’t really stay motivated for long - lots of stops and starts but never really quit trying.

Taking breaks really does help with mount collecting, if you burn out you’ll likely never go back.
Variety and an army of alts are good too.

Almost forgot. Another trick that works for me is go after the transmogs and pets too. That way you don’t feel like all you got was some gold and a few bits of cloth.

Mix them up. If you got all the plate that drops, next time go with a toon that wears one of the other types of armor.

I personally pick one or three [cough] to farm, and stick to them until I get what I want. If it’s a longer raid, I may just farm that one. I do it on all my alts of level [with exceptions-ie some are just too long or take too much. I’m down to a couple like that now]. I don’t overwhelm myself by going after every mount I can at once, just pick my goal/targets and go after them until they drop.

Once they drop, I start looking for my next one or two to go after. Rinse, repeat. I’m to the point now it’s getting harder, but I would not call myself a pro mount hunter either. It’s just a little something-something I enjoy passing time with in the game.

Good luck, and happy hunting!

Man I lose my mind every week I don’t get Mannoroth Shoulderpads.

Can’t imagine dedicating a lifetime farming mounts. Happy with my Invincible.

I dont mind grinds really…but when I hear that people have been farming a mount for 10 yrs…I stay away from it.
Some stuff I only do once in a while (zul gurub) others i do weekly no matter what ( MOP WB’s)
variety is key lol

Take breaks in between. I push hard on one until I get it then I do other things like level alts before I decide on my next objective.

Currently on Galleon for 5+ years but I’ll be starting on Invincible or Garrosh’ shoulders soon.

I don’t try for anything with any consistency except the Sha of Anger, and I ritualistically do that one on all of my characters every Tuesday as I marathon shows with a friend.

Anything else, is just a spur of the moment “I feel like running X right now”. If I get a mount, cool, if not, hopefully I got some new mogs out of it instead.

When it comes to running old raids, I focus on one mount at a time. It is possible to burn yourself out.

I’m working towards 500 as a personal goal since no achievement exist for it yet. I’m 13 away!
