You can just track the achievement for your mount count if your below 400 so you won’t lose count if your at 279 currently. Tracking using this thread is what most of us do beyond 400 because there is no further achievement and the mount counter in the statistics is gone.

Finally looted Rampaging Mauler, From the rare, Konthrogz, In Korthia. Took me 21 attempts to earn this mount. I now have 522 usable mounts on my main!

Okay, so I finally had time to just sit down and go over all my mounts and compare everything. I have listed all the mounts and comparisons in the following spreadsheet.

Current mount count across entire account: 638
Most mounts usable by one character: 501 (Tauren Pally with ENG/TAILOR)
Secret Discord bot count for Tauren Pally:
This number would be accurate in terms of continuing the Stats counter numbers. However, it is NOT accurately reflecting the usable mounts.
So far, I have found only the Data for Azeroth counts to be accurate in terms of what mounts you actually have available to use.
Side Note: If you wish to have a running count of each mount in the journal, I asked in the UI Forum for help making an addon and someone was kind enough to help me right away. It greatly helped with the manual counts in the journal.

So take that LUA code and insert it into the Addon creator at https://addon.bool.no/ … name the addon whatever you wish and download it (it will be a .zip file). Then just extract the addon folder and install it into the game.
It just adds a numbered list to the journal that looks like this:

I’ve found Data of Azeroth counts to be inaccurate as they just take the journals numbers from Blizzard’s API. The only accurate number is the bot from the Secret Finding Discord. This is of course for “usable mounts” but obviously once your past the achievement I guess there isn’t any reason we can’t “collect them all” regardless of if the mount is usable and therefore go by the journal count, that’s really a community thing on whether or not we should continue tracking based on the journal or by how the achievement tracks mounts (which is how I assume most of us are tracking the number).
I think we can just simply list both for consistency but I do wish Blizzard would just make it simple. Oh and add more mount achievements,
I am curious as to what you consider an accurate count of usable mounts.
As I showed in the spreadsheet, the manual count of each mount shown for each of the characters listed matched perfectly with Data for Azeroth counts.
I am not referring to the number shown at top of Journal. I am referring to counting each mount listed for each character (hence why I asked for help making the addon I linked).
If you look at that last screenshot in my post, you will notice that the Total Mounts number shown at top of Journal is not the same as the actual count of mounts available to that character (last mount shown is #501, top of Journal shows 582).
Dataforazeroth definitely feels wrong.
The purpose of this site is to match mount count to the achievement tracker (which we currently don’t have one).
And the purpose behind why I did the comparisons was that I was seeing too many inconsistencies.
Going back to my initial posts here when I was still able to count using the Stats page (which is from where my first post counts started), I started counting at #455 on Kyzera (or #457 on my Belf Pally).
Since that time, I have added 80 additional mounts. Therefore Kyzera’s count would actually be 535 (if we continued to use the Stats counter numbers).
With that in mind (since I have now had time to look through this thread and realize that count), I wish to retract my previous statement in earlier post (which will be edited momentarily) and agree that the Secret Discord will show the continuation of the Stats counter. However, that number does NOT reflect the usable mounts on a character.
This discrepancy may actually explain why Blizzard removed the Stats counter in the first place.
Last three mounts I earned have been:
Jan 3 - Drake of the West Wind (Tol Barad)
Jan 8 - Fossilized Raptor (Archaeology)
Jan 9 - Great Northern Elderhorn (Legion Leatherworking)
I was MOST excited for the Fossilized Raptor. I had been working on Archaeology pretty casually the previous week and decided to devote my weekend to getting something accomplished. Not only did I finally max out Zandalari Archaeology, but my 37th “Fossil” solve was the mount!
I think my next goals are tackling the Tailoring carpets, the Tol’vir blue beetle, and maybe even fishing (200 failed attempts in Argus yesterday almost put me to sleep).

Finally got my hands on the Tamed Mauler mount from The Archivists’ Codex in Korthia! Took me (8) reputation caches to finally obtain this mount!
I now got 523 mounts obtained on my main!

1/11 - Blacksteel Battleboar (Guild Glory of the Draenor Raider) + Forsworn Aquilon (Wild Worldcracker-Korthia)
1/13 - Swift Albino Raptor (Arathi Highlands - BFA)
Blacksteel Battleboar has been one I’ve been on the lookout for for years since it seems no guilds have the Glory of the Draenor Raider achievement. As luck would have it, I was in a guild that had the achievement, I just didn’t see it being sold by the guild vendor because I wasn’t exalted with my guild yet!
Very excited to get the Swift Albino Raptor as well - probably a dozen trips to Arathi Highlands and I’ve never snagged anything other than a few toys/pets from that zone.
Tomorrow night my egg will hatch to give me Lord of the Corpseflies! Now if only I could get Stygian Stonecrusher to drop the Mastercraft Gravewing for my Venthyr alt, then I’d have all four of the covenant-specific Korthia rare mounts!

I got it from my first paragon box - wasn’t even expecting it. They definetly buffed the drop rate I believe. Now, the Highmountain one, took me about 12 boxes - Since TBC timewalking and Legion ones overlapped, each character that completed a dungeon for the first time in the week got 1k badges (500 for each quest) so it was easy to grind with multiple alts. Keep trying you’ll get it!

I’ve had the Zan-Tien Lasso item in my bags for two years. TWO YEARS. I finally return to Pandaria and go to the Mogu assault and hover for maybe ten minutes spamming a macro … then BAM.
Ivory Cloud Serpent acquired.
Alas, Rei Lun spawned nearby as well, but did not give me the Rajani Warserpent to complete the set. Maybe tomorrow.
