Correct.
I would like to see mergers as in meaning one or more servers cease to exist and all the players are then placed on a single server. This is the part that causes name collisions. Which is why we have the solution we have. Everyone gets to keep their names and servers are filled by sharding/connecting.
I was a proponent of fixing the naming issue by allowing two part names.
Like “Gelyn Mystweaver”.
I don’t recall the reasoning behind that not working Might have been an engine limitation or something similar. Could have been spaces in names or something about path length limit or something like that. I really don’t recall the reasons why we couldn’t have two part names.

we could just make name @charactername@battle.net name and then hide battlenet name in ui

So long as the battlenet ID part could never be leaked.
Some players like to be able to log to an alt to play for privacy reasons.
Some are trying to escape trolls and harassment.
Some just don’t want the GD forums or their main characters guild to know they enjoy mining ore and picking flowers over M+ content.
i.e. not feeling it tonight. Would rather go fishing for a couple hours and log instead.
If everyone has your battlenet ID you won’t get to do any of those things.
i would have be something you toggle in your setting like show your battle.net name maybe have it be off by default
There’s no reason for it. Connections are functionally the same.
This is probably the worst idea I’ve seen in a while.

except you cant trade cross realm. on same server you can.
Connected Realms aren’t cross realm. They’re smart Mergers. They’re the same server. You absolutely can trade.

most stuff are cross server already there are only few things left
Irrelevant. One large server with convoluted naming is illogical. The population isn’t that low and it’s unnecessary when we have smart mergers.
I can,Pyromor -Bronzebeard can trade with Pyromor-Shandris two different server but one connection.
on turalyon when i try and trade it say you cant do it. i dont think ours has connected realms.
We’re talking about Connected Realms, which are Smart Mergers of low pop realms. Not cross faction.

what?? i said connected realms. our server not let us trade between same faction. when they on different realm.
Blizzard claims they’re either full or high, but they lie. Years ago, when two low population realm were connected with a high/full realm, the two low ones immediately became high and stayed there. The current ratings haven’t changed over the years either, despite the player exodus during Shadowlands, for example.
Bread, seriously.
The conversation was as follows:
This entire thread is about MERGERS. CONNECTED REALMS.
yeah i said i dont think our server is connected realm because when i try and trade with same faction player on different realm it not let me trade with them. i just want to give them stuff.
I have no idea what your point is, because you replied to me talking about CONNECTED REALMS and said you can’t trade. Cross realm has nothing to do with anything here, Bread. You’re not making any sense.
Using the recent goblin event as an example.
Why can’t I trade drops with players that are standing next to me for the event?
Why are they “ineligible”?
I don’t know what the appropriate buzzword de’jour is to use, but it’s the reason why. So why not merge us?
Your realm Turylon isn’t connected to any other realms, so if you see players from other realms, even if same faction you won’t be able to trade with them, because they’re just crossed realms with you.
On the other hand the realm I’m on Steamwheedle Cartle is connected to two other realms, Kirin Tor and Sentinels and they’re all the same server cluster and you can trade and guild freely between the three.
We do very often cross realm with Earthen Ring among others and those you can’t trade with.
