Hey again,

Just to follow up it looks like our devs are working on a fix for those who are getting this flickering in open world content as well as the loading screen. I do not have any information on when the fix will be pushed live. No action should be required since this will be through a patch update to the game.

Thanks for the reports!

I have the flickering of brightness on loading screens only. Happens on DX11/DX11Legacy/DX12 on my RTX 2080 Ti using latest NVIDIA drivers.

Hi Affected Users,

I am having the same issues with dimming and Brightening during loading screen only. I suspect its related to in-game settings with Brightness, contrast and gamma settings.

What i did was goto System> Advance > and look for Brightness gamma and contrast settings on the far right.

I changed the values to Brightness to 50 Contrast to 50 and Gamma to 1.0 then hit apply.

Not sure why this combination reduces or eliminates the loading screen issue but it did on my setup.

Hopefully the kind ppl of Blizzard take notice and look into why its happening to certain users.

Let me know if it has made a difference?

Hope this helps!
Not sure what the default values are.

Kindly
Durric.

I am getting the same results. Using Full screen, login, select your character, select Enter Realm and the cinematic while loading the realm, it will fluctuate between bright and dim a few times while loading. Annoying, but only seems to happen during cinematics and cut scenes. I tried changing Vertical Sync, changing the Compatibility settings on wow.exe…neither worked. I am not finding the G-Sync option in the Nvidia Control Panel, so I can’t try that. It appears to have started a couple of weeks ago. I just got a Nvidia update today and the issue still happens. I am sorry, but I am not going to go into Windowed Mode and have each email I get throughout the day popup in the middle of the Quest dialogue and I can’t open my bags until the Windows Notification goes away…too much email spam to put up with this.

Any other ideas?

Sindressa,

Moved you to this thread. This is something we’re looking at for a fix on our end, but some players noticed that adaptive syncing is causing flickering on their monitors. It sounds like you may be talking about the dimming above. If you’re having flickering instead, the G-sync option will only be available on some monitors (mostly high end gaming monitors.) If the setting is available for your monitor, you’ll see it in your nvidia control panel under Display - the menu is called Set up G-Sync. If it’s not there, that indicates that you don’t have the proper type of monitor OR that your drivers are out of date.

I was noticing Flickering in Vol’dun while doing a quest on horde. Playing on a laptop with windows 10 and nvidia gfx card

Glad i found this thread. I have a windows 10 computer (not laptop) and ever since new patch have also gotten the load screen flicker from light to dark then back. Its as if someone is turning a light off and on!

Anyhow i downloaded the PTR today since the 8.3 stuff is available and i did NOT have any load screen issues there. So then i decided to go back to normal wow turn off all my ad ons and restart game and the load screen flickering was still happening!

So far though i have not noticed any flickering while out in the world. Also this seems to be my only game having this issue!

Me too. I’m just glad it’s not a me problem. I thought my monitor was dying out.

Just came here after noticing flickering while in anyport, drustvar. Happens whenever i equip or unequip items, with rare instances of it not happening. It’s very fast flickering, so hard to tell for sure, but i think it’s a rapid darkening of the screen. Doesn’t seem to occur on loading screens for me, and it doesnt seem to affect me in zuldazar.
Edit: Getting flickering on loading screens on the PTR now.

Loading screens still plagued with brightness changing. I’m using DirectX 12 if it matters.

I would have thought this would have been fixed by now. I only started having problems after 8.2.5. That’s been about two weeks now ?

If Gamma is set outside of default, my machines have this issue. Exactly two flashes … basically switching between the recommended default setting and the user defined gamma setting.

Still happening to me, but only on load screens.

This has been happening to me for two weeks as well. I have to turn away from my screen each time I load a new character or zone to another area.
Please repair this its giving me headaches.

i had just logged out and noticed a download for the game… have not seen patch notes. anyhow i relogged and my screen did not flicker while going to Org from Pandaria and back to Org. So i am assuming some of that patch must have been to fix that.

Hope fully it doesnt revert back.

Still flickering in combat. Can’t play until this is fixed.

This bug was fixed in build 8.2.5.32144. Double check to make sure you’re on that version or later and update the game using the battle.net application if you aren’t. Your version information is available to the right of the Play button on the battle.net application. If the problem persists past this build, it means that you’re having a different issue and should create your own thread.
