After a very long break, I am returning to my monk and have a few questions.
-
I recall us having a mechanic that penalized using the same ability in succession. Is that still in effect?
-
Solely regarding the abilities below, what is the optimal rotation?
- Tiger Palm (Generates 2 chi)
- Rising Sun Kick (Costs 2 chi with 8 sec cooldown)
- Blackout Kick (Costs 1 chi)
- Fists of Fury (Costs 3 chi with 19 sec cooldown)
It would seem to me the following is best, listing total chi pools, but I am uncertain.
TP 2 chi
RSK 0 chi
TP 2 chi
BK 1 chi
TP 3 chi
FoF 0 chi
TP 2 chi
BK 1 chi
TP 3 chi
RSK 1 chi
(repeat)
I am also uncertain if FoF should even be used in a single-target situation.
Please advise.
If you play conduit you will find it’s fairly simple but can be complicated.
The first answer is yes you don’t want to cast the same ability in succession ever it will break you combo strikes.
Other then that it’s fairly simple strike of the wind lord, fists of fury, rising sun kick, whirling dragon punch, spinning crane kick, conduit of the celestials, fist of fury rising sun kick.
You pretty much only cast black out kick when you have 2 stacks, or if not doing so breaks combo strikes, same for tiger punch
The starter build (not changing) does not have conduit of the celestials. Regardless, you didn’t answer the question as asked.
It also doesn’t make sense. I have 2 chi at the start. After casting SotWL I have none. I 'd have to cast TP twice before FoF, as in your example.
Ignore the starter build.
Spec into conduit.
For your opener tiger palm, then celestial kitty kat, then storm earth wind ( which will give you chi ) then potion and trinket, then strike of the wind lord then fists of fury. Then see above.
If you want the full rotation then go to peak of serenity. I am just giving you the basic history it.
If you are using the starter build then the rotation doesn’t matter so to speak. You don’t have access to some abilities.
As yes always use fist of fury…… single target or Aoe target but don’t ever stop the cast short. So my I had to create a bunch of macros for literally every ability to prevent this.
The truth is if you are 70 and following the starter build none of it matters, and no one puts a lot of effort to sim your rotation knowing that sim could change literally every level.
Get max level go to peak of serenity and your life will be better, or don’t and keep asking questions.
Not gonna happen. There’s too much going on already. If anything I need LESS things to click than more.
I think the big thing is how I think. Honestly, I simply cannot understand most classes/spec rotations. I don’t think like that. I need a simple 3-4 buttons “rotation” to keep momentum going, while the rest are ALL situational or based on an easy to understand priority.
Unfortunately this is just the way most specs are as they’ve moved away from rotations almost entirely in favor of priorities.
There is a mechanic where you don’t want to cast things back to back, you are correct.
In regards to the abilities that you mentioned and putting them into a rotation, what you have is probably best. Just as long as you understand that your DPS potential will be very limited.
It is a game though, so as long as you understand that and this is the way you’d enjoy it, then have fun.

Yes but no. Our mastery is still don’t repeat the same ability. Hit Combo is still around. However, Hit Combo isn’t mandatory and it’s really hard to cast stuff like SotWL or FoF back to back.
Keep the important stuff like SotWL, FoF, and RSK on CD. Manage procs for BoK and DoCJ well so they don’t overcap. Try line stuff up for SotWL.
Use FoF in ST. Let it channel fully.
