Does anybody else enjoy the fact Monk is such a rarely played classe?
According to data for azeroth, Monks only make up 6% of the max level population making it the third lowest played class out of 13 classes.
I understand this raises inherent issues with gameplay etc. as there’s little impetus to ensure a high level of satisfaction from such a small % of the player population.
However I quite enjoy playing such a rare class. It brings with it an almost sense of eliteness or exclusivity and always makes it exciting when crossing paths or pugging with a fellow Monk.
While rare is good I suppose, it also means there’s not much reason to tune them to be anything other than middle of the road and keep them there. WW anyways. Keeps the players who have stuck with it as long as they have around at the very least. As long as the gameplay doesn’t change too much. I’m kinda side-eyeing Midnight but we’ll see.
Was kinda funny watching people swap to a WW Monk at the very start of Legion when we had that insane burst potential in both ST and AoE. All I could think was “Oh my sweet summer child. This isn’t going to last”. Sure enough it was nerfed somewhat quickly if memory serves. Was probably around 7.1 that the fun in the Sun ended.
It is cool to be rare, but at the same time it makes me worry. Being less popular of a class makes me consider that monks may not get as much attention as say druids or paladins because devs may want to cater to a larger player base.
I may be wrong, but it may translate to less customizations or less attention to class/spec tuning. Just my opinion.
This should change now that brewmaster is looking to the strongest tank for m+ going into midnight as well as they pruned so much it went from the hardest to learn to one of the easiest to pick up. Which is a good thing honestly more eyes on this class the better
Yeah, it is really cool. Though from my perspective, as a Brewmaster, I start to feel just how corporately designed/controlled the game is when there’s flame tornadoes and swapping out one bug for another type of thing. Starts to feel like changes for the sake of change, or just to stir the spec into a broader design philosophy rather than giving the spec things people who play the spec would actually want and asked for.
Just how it seems to me… MW has especially been making some decent changes though, IMO.
The class has consistently lacked consistency. I love the current iteration of Shado Pan Windwalker even though it’s far from perfect. Talent tree needs some serious work. Too many active abilities that require multiple nodes to be decent.
Indeed, This is why we have stuff like slicing wind that nobody likes, and instead of fixing SEF, we got a generic cooldown instead. Although now we don’t have SEF bugginess. I do miss Xuen with shado-pan, and realize I sill need to use conduit because of the 25% fortified health bubble in pvp and heart of the jade serpent 50% faster fist of fury.
Unfortunately, yes lol.
I don’t really like that I’m a contrarian by nature, but I do have to admit to myself and the class that anytime I think about maining paladin or druid, I can’t help but consider that there are already so many of them.
Monk’s rarity is definitely a consideration.
