I’d like to start an open discussion about something I’ve been experiencing as of lately, it follows this kind of toxic mob mentality that seems to be so prevalent with guilds in the current day and age of Classic WoW. For those who are not familiar with the term “blacklist” it is essentially a guide for people who are usually in a guild of players to avoid grouping with. People can generally get added to this list for any number of reasons and if not regulated by the Guild Master or guild staff on what constitutes being added to this list it gets very messy quite fast.
In my case I got blacklisted from a guild because I asked somebody to leave when they decided to invade my aoe farming spot while leveling. They cussed me out and then proceeded to put me on ignore and role reversaled the entire situation when they put the addition of my name to their blacklist. A couple weeks go by and I’m running into a lot of members from this guild as they have the highest number of max level players of any guild on the server. I’m spamming dungeons like BRD, LBRS, UBRS, Strat, etc. and constantly running into these players. Right off the bat they start talking crap to me saying all kinds of hateful things and saying I’m all kinds of things though they have never even met me. I can only assume that they got this notion of an extremely toxic player from this blacklist and go into the situation with a extreme prejudice towards me and take everything I say as toxic, as it is difficult to judge a players tone based off of text. I then proceed to mind my own business in major cities and these guild members grow so hateful that they hunt me down to /spit on me and are spamming things in trade and world chat to ruin my reputation. At this point I contact the Guild Master in order to find out what is going on and why this is happening, I ask that my name be removed from their list in order to prevent this from continuing and that I get the names of those who are spreading this false narrative of me so that I can talk to them and explain what is happening. The Guild Master then tells me “I don’t tattle on my guildies” so I inform him that at this point I am one person being persecuted and harassed by an entire guild and I just want this to end, I offer to hop into Discord and speak with the officers and Guild Master to explain what is happening so we can get this resolved before it gets any uglier and I start filing reports.
A friend of mine happened to be streaming this guilds raid of Onyxia and captured the entire conversation about me in Discord in which they say they want to add my name to a server wide blacklist and make me uninstall and quit the game all while laughing about it. I have since gathered all of my screenshots and clips to file a report against an entire guild, things like this should not be allowed to happen in Classic WoW. I’m one person with a single voice against an army of hateful and prejudice members of this guild who consistently harass me and are actually intentionally ruining my game experience over some guy putting my name on a blacklist because he got mad that I told him to leave and lied and role reversaled one incident. I don’t know how Blizzard could actually fix this kind of thing other than offering those who are under attack by these groups of people some kind of way out or creating some kind of investigation team that handles mob mentality harassment like this to enact proper punishment.
Let me know what you guys think should be done in an instance like this, I tried to be civil with the guild and explain but the blacklist seems to be the blacklist and that’s final. I can only hope that there’s some kind of justice brought by this as I am not the only one that this guild has claimed to persecute on this server, nor will I be the last if this issue goes untouched.
Sounds like an overreaction by that guild, but what made you believe you were entitled to tell other people they couldn’t play where you were aoe farming?
Although the guild is overreacting a bit, you do realized you caused this whole fiasco right? I mean you essentially told someone in a mmo they couldn’t play there because you were there first.
Yea people are mostly trolls and love to have somebody to hate. So what ever chance they get they will jump on it and continue to hate to make them self feel better.
as someone else said, once more people get to 60 it won’t matter. and ‘server wide blacklist’ is really nothing. the vast majority of people in vanilla and so far in classic, don’t really care about any blacklisting. and quite frankly, i wouldn’t want to play with any people that petty.
LOL I’m sure you were ever so polite when you told him to leave.
Nothing should be done. If players want to enforce a blacklist of players they find to be disruptive or anti-social, that’s their right. No one should be forced to play with people they don’t want to. Maybe you should take some time to reflect on your own behavior and attitude. It’s like the old saying goes: “If everyone has a problem with you, then you’re the one with a problem.”
Eh… you told someone to leave “your” AOE farming spot. That’s not how the game works bruh. You were in the wrong. Now, the guild seems to be way too extreme and are acting childish. You kind of brought it on yourself though. WoW has no player housing, so no spot is yours, ever.
To people saying “its not your spot”, “you shouldnt have told him to leave”, etc. You’re wrong. Maybe its the old everquest player in me, maybe its my antisocial personality but you dont steal other peoples camps. Its not cool. If someone came up to my table in a restaurant and sat down without permission or stole chairs from the table id be annoyed.
What the guild is doing now does constitute harassment, if the OP is telling the truth.
I am totally that guy who will say “Is this seat taken?” and before you can answer I’m already sitting down and browsing through the menu. I’m just real social like that.
For clarification the situation was I was aoe farming the zombies in wpl and the player that I asked to leave kept stealing my mob tags as I was gathering them up, he was also a mage. He followed me to different layers and generally trolled me.
True, but I had some ppl do this to me, at I spot where I had been stationary and pulling mobs for hours. They decided not only to tap and pull all mobs, but also to fight them right on top of where I was standing for like 10 minutes. I asked them to move and fight somewhere else, but of course they just got more excited and jumping everywhere. So I logged out. Point is, it isn’t so clear cut.
