With the portals/mage food and mage buff and the complete lack of mages at the moment, I think its a good time to roll a mage if you have the choice.
I keep an eye out for good mages whenever I’m pugging keys as a healer cause the int buff is just so juicy. Sometimes I even go into LFR first thing in the morning to collect my daily mage food to sustain me through the day.
Thing is, who knows what Blizz will do in terms of balancing. By the time you crack 18 and above, they may buff hunters or mage survive. I’d just pick the one that’s more fun.
Mage will get you into groups more often if you pug. Food, buff, lust and a lot of cc vs mm Hunter who brings… well nothing.

This is true. That’s a worthy point!
MM or Mage?
I love M&Ms. I had no problem with the shoes the green M&M wore either way. But did anyone understand their Super Bowl commercial? Candy with clams? What was that all about?
Really depends how high you plan to push, for anything 20 or under i think both are about on par, with Hunters prolly being a bit higher damage-wise.
If you wanna push past 20s, absolutely Mage. Hunters are made of tissue paper in high end content to the point people avoid them. Large part of the reason i gave up on mine.
Hunter currently has 2 very viable specs in MM and BM, BM being much better in raids. MM could use a leech buff, but it currently has 5 damage reduction/healing cds, 6 if there is a warlock in the group.
The fourms have blown hunters survivability out of proportion, meaning the class is not near as bad as some people would like to believe lol.

Was this in higher end keys that you decided this? I don’t want to push with a class that’s going to infuriate me but if they don’t really fall apart until 20’s that’s fine with me, as long as 15-20 doesn’t make me want to rip my hair out lol
I mean it was a lot of factors, i haven’t really liked what they did with the class since Legion onwards but it was def a pain point
Hunter survivability is based around their really high mobility, range and large amount of crowd control. Almost none of that matters in high M+ or Raids so you feel a lot more at the mercy of your healer as once Exhil, turtle and your healthpot are burnt, that’s all you got.
Them getting rid of bandages also unironically screwed Hunters the most.
But yeah for 15s-20s its more than manageable.
I do a lot of open world content. My hunter will run circles around my mage. Both are around 385. It’s the pet. Put the aggro on the pet and my hunter can take out almost all 72 elites.
