MM Hunters Need Help in Arena!

My wishlist for MM Hunters
-Revert the Double Tap nerf
-PvP talent which allows Aimed Shot to be castable while moving. Either damage reduction or a duration ability with short CD.
-Scatter Shot and Traps off the same DR
-Turtle PvP talent which makes it remove harmful effects and heals
-An ability like Warlocks which is on 3 min CD that allows pet revive to be 1 second cast, and pets take even less damage from attacks that are not targeting them.

I think there’s a lot of issues combined. GCD lock is def an issue. Especially in todays meta.

1.5 sec GCD revert for a reactionary class has been horrific, especially in areas where our tools haven’t been updated, while other classes have had major revamps. Flare still responds the way it did in 2009, yet rogue vanish/stealth has received massive overhauls and improvements. With 1 sec GCD, you could reliably flare most vanishes right on them. At 1.5 sec GCD with rogue mobility receiving massive improvements you sometimes have to flare 20-30 yards in a predictive path just to hope to get it.

On top of that in a meta where melee now have the mobility to cross the entire map, then back again, then back again in a short window, lack of increased mobility plus the introduction of a turret 2.5 second cast is nuts.

That’s aside from the notion that during that 2.4-2.5 sec cast, most melee can pump 2 abilities that each do as much, if not far more damage. You’re just constantly falling behind because while you put out that 3-4k aimed shot, you just got shadowstrike + evisc for 11k total. Or Mortal Strike/execute/condemned for 12-13k. Since non-aimed arcanes don’t do anything, you pretty much just have to hand your head on a platter and hope they’re bad if you want to do damage. If you kite, you don’t do anything which doesn’t really benefit you.

I’d also like to point out, at this stage of the game, with the insane mobility melee have (while some of them can do more ranged damage than we can), Aimed while moving won’t change much. At 2.5 secs, the issue above I outlined of melee hitting you twice for every aimed for more damage than the aimed still exists because they’ll have 100% uptime with mobility to spare to run away.

Scatter needs off trap DR.

Mobility needs to go way up.

Damage needs to either get burstier by an increase, or streamlined by making Aimed Instant.

Trueshot needs to actually be scary. It really doesn’t increase damage by much.

Defensives need to be a bit better, but if we get the previous we still need to be squishy and killable.

I agree with most of that except the Aimed Shot while moving thing. The issue I have is when melee gets on us (and they will) we use one of our escape methods and either run to open distance or disengage. But then if we aimed shot after that it gives them 2.5 seconds to close right back on us. If we could side strafe opening distance while shooting aimed shot it would help.

It could help a little bit, however almost all melee (War, WW, Rogue, DH, DK, Feral) will pretty much have permanent uptime on you, and Enhance/ret can still burst you from range harder than you can to them. So you’ll still constantly fall behind.

On top of that, it will still be really easy to LOS and run from a hunter even casting this, which is weird because our whole class fantasy is supposed to be that we’re hunting things down…

At the very least I genuinely believe if Aimed while moving is the bandaid to this, the base cast time needs to be back to 1.5 seconds. 2.5 is an eternity in this gameplay.

Something I forgot to mention earlier, and I’d love to have Dillon’s opinion.

Concussive Shot kind of sucks. With a CD and a 2.5 second casted ability the entire dps rotation revolves around you have to refresh it almost every 3rd ability.

I feel like buffing this ability would be a great way to give us something unique to the spec. Some possible thoughts:

1 of the following:

  • Buff Duration
  • Buff the movement penalty (Would probably be best to not have more of these in the game though)
  • Give it a .5 second GCD

Along with one of the following:

  • Limits movement speed to exactly 50% regardless of suppressions/sprints like rog Maneuverability, Ghost wolf, Wraith walk, and possibly allowing it to not be shifted.
  • Increase Crit Chance against players
  • Higher chance to proc a lock and load baseline everytime you hit a Conc’d player.

IDK something, anything. The ability cost so many GCDs to mantain now that we’re back to 1.5s GCD and a 2.5 sec main ability cast, and so much of the MM toolkit has no secondary interactions with each other.

When I play my lock I easily maintain everyone in an arena and everyone near me in a RBG slowed at all times. Probably a bit OP but the Hunter slow just looks silly in comparison.

Edit: while ticking a DoT on them which helps buff other abilities.

To be in the same ballpark, Concus would have to be a DoT and make out Aimed Shot do 10% more damage for everyone who you have slowed.

Aimed Shot cast time is definitely laughable. Even if it does 20% more dmg, the base 2.5s cast time is just ridiculous. On top of that it makes you focus starved.

On a class whose only given survivability mechanic is supposed to be kiting. Btw.

That one balancing choice contains so much internal dissonance that it gives me a migraine whenever I try to understand it.

I like this. Landing a frost trap either resets or reduce the cost of DT by 30 seconds or something. That would make our set ups more impactful

Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally a bg hero on my hunter, but I love mending bandage when I mess around as survival.

Giving it to marks and bm as well / baseline for all specs would be awesome.
