I’ve been playing WoW since vanilla, and Midnight has to be the most disappointing expansion yet for me. Pretty much every new feature of this expansion has been a failure or a step down compared to previous features.
Housing - I’m sure many people will have different experiences with housing, but for me the novelty of it wore off very quickly and the game itself gives players very little incentive to actually go to their houses, so this feature quickly felt forgotten and neglected to me.
Story - For years, WoW has been telling us that the Void is some horrifying cosmic force that gave us the Old Gods among other things, so I was expecting Midnight to be the most horror-themed/Lovecraftian expansion yet. Something like Nyalotha from BfA but on an expansion-wide scale. Instead we just got Blood Elves and Amani Trolls suddenly getting along just fine, some hippy nature elves (who barely appeared in TWW), and only one void-related zone which is just a rehash of Netherstorm from Outland. And the forces of the Void itself, far from being Lovecraftian horrors, are basically just the Burning Legion but colored blue instead of green.
Dungeons- Much has already been said about this, but suffice to say, Mythic plus dungeons are in a pretty bad place right now. Most of the new delves also feel inferior to the ones in TWW.
Classes - Don’t know the current consensus on class balance, but I really hated how the new “apex talents” are implemented. Just three new talents that are pretty much essential to every spec, so every class will be railroaded to take those. This completely removes any customization possibilities.
The only really positive things I can say about Midnight is that Silvermoon City is one of the best hub cities and Valeera is a better Delve companion than Brann.
Overall, Midnight has been the most disappointing expansion yet for me. Some might say my expectations were unreasonable, but Blizzard really dropped the ball for me. And for an expansion called “Midnight”, three of the four zones are some of the brightest, most idyllic zones I’ve ever seen in WoW.
I keep trying to think of something positive to say about Midnight but its a struggle. This is the first expansion where I’ve left the dialogue volume at zero the entire time.
The battle is not being run by the Void. It is being run by the renegade Harbinger Xal’atath who came to control Void elements because she got control of the power of Dimensius the All Devourer and a few other powers.
She is attacking the Blood Elves who have recruited other elves and trolls who have formed an alliance because they all see the same threat.
It was still Blizzard’s choice to frame the story that way. I believe focusing more on the Void, like an expansion-wide Nyalotha as I originally mentioned, would’ve been much more interesting and well-received, and more in line with how the Void was being built up.
Here.
The best WoW version is when it came out.
Everything is so balanced and played by skill.
Now a button, monk, example, rooted, spin kick, and I died. loool
I came back from a 6yr break for Legion and don’t remember any hate it got other than people were crying about mage tower. (and I don’t even think mage tower was a thing at launch)
one thing i’ll say in midnights defense is i actually like the dungeons. Haven’t done much m+ yet but leveling alts through dungeon finder and i gotta say they’re pretty neat. TWW dungeons were so meh i just couldn’t bring myself to do them much.
Your points are about a valid as you being a one post wonder troll. But hey if you love AI to write up generic complaints about the game and call it your own opinion. You go do you booboo.
Its cata 2 electric boogaloo but this time the classes are so dumbed down there isnt any skill expression to be found anywhere. Given the declining player base of the other mmo that implemented homogenization as a feature(ffxiv), you’d think they would understand that long term its not the pog play.
