Midnight Collectors edition; pls advise

Hi all! New player here. My husband, an old returning player (took abt 10 year break), wants to buy me the Midnight pre-order collectors edition. I know that if you buy any of the digital options for Midnight, it comes with The War Within automatically unlocked. However, we cant seem to find any info on if you automatically unlock TWW with the collectors edition, or if it comes as a physical key with everything else that ships in June. We want me to be able to play TWW before Midnight releases, but we also want to get the collectors edition of Midnight and not have to buy both expansions if we can help it haha

Is there any info or advice anyone can give us? I am loving the game so far and would love to celebrate my infatuation with the collectors edition but not at the cost of having to play through TWW After Midnight releases! Lol

Hi

Glad to hear that you’re enjoying it so far. There’s a lot to like, especially in the older content.

And you are wise to get some experience before Midnight, and level a few characters of different classes and races, so that you understand the game and have a sense of what gameplay/class/specialization you will enjoy going into the new expansion.

The short version of the answer is that you can, but with a slight catch:

  • buy a Digital version of Midnight now, which unlocks The War Within
  • when you get your Collector’s Edition, you can redeem your code for …
  • a refund in the form of a BattleNet balance

BattleNet Balance is not cash, but you can use it to pay for game time or items in the Shop - and you will certainly want game time, so it shouldn’t be wasted.

This is the page that tells you about it:

Already pre-purchased a digital edition of Midnight? No problem! These three new commemorative collectibles can still be added to your trove. When you purchase the World of Warcraft: Midnight Collector’s Edition, you’ll receive a Battle.net® balance reimbursement for your previous purchase to use in-game or on Battle.net.

The fundamental issue with playing TWW now simply because you bought the Midnight CE is this: you have no license for WoW until the CE ships, because the license is a code inside the box. Since CE ships close to the actual release date of the expansion, that means you have no license to play TWW until after it no longer matters (Midnight release date). The latest thing you’d be able to play is Dragonflight.

This is different from the digital pre-purchase of Midnight, which is attached to your Battle.net account immediately and therefore unlocks TWW immediately.
