Megathread: The Other Half of the Dragon Fantasy - DRAKONIDS

No.

WoW Dragons and Drakonids are androgynous in Dragon form, to add boobs would be a disgrace.

Fun Fact, Blizz initially almost made a Female Dracthyr and Male Dracthyr model.

HOWEVER, the intended difference was to have a more broad shoulder and puffed chest for the men (body type 4), and the women would have had much curvier hips, and small shoulders, similar to body type 1, but with more butt curve, and a very small chest push, that didn’t extend into the arms.

But no actual boobs.

Have you not played the expansion. 98% of ALL Dracthyr HATE that they were TOLD to be Dragon Magic Soldiers, and they want to branch out from it.

Not to mention that lore wise, VERY FEW of them can master the magics to be an Evoker, most choose 1 magic to stick with, and one faction, Emberthal’s canonically functioned as Rogues.

There is no reason to, the interupts do 0 dmg, and have a 1.5 min cooldown, which is no better then Kul Tiran, Zandalari, or Tauren racials.

Again, have you played the story, bro? They are very distinct, and that is why it’s a Racial and not a Class ability.

The only native things are flying, wing buffet, and tail swipe.

The Evoker magics they are made with, are not what defines them in the Lore, and their whole story is about branching out to be what/who they want to be, not what Deathwing forced them to be with the Thanos Glove that forcibly controlled them.

The Dragon breath you speak of, is not a racial, so there is no need to worry about other Dracthyr classes having it or not.

A LOT of people keep forgetting that the 45 second cooldown on the tail swipe or wing buffet. ONLY happen if you spec into it as an Evoker. Technically the race has to wait 1.5 minutes for either to recharge, and they do 0 damage.

With the tail being a knock up, and the wings a knock back.

IF the NEEDED to nerf it, they could make it be like Goblin Rocket Boots, to where using 1 of the two, activates the 1.5 minute cooldown for both on Non-Evokers.

They don’t need to loose SOAR, although I’d love a variation of Flying Wild too, so I could always use my Dracthyr’s body as it’s own means of transport.

I come into all these Megathreads and not one person is talking about Dave Mustaine.

Well, I tried to use an AI model to transform Dave Mustaine into a draconic humanoid. He wasn’t having it. He just did this:

Like it or not the female Drakonids do in fact have breasts, they’re not huge but they are there. The playable dragons the dracthyr do not but the larger drakonids do in fact have them on their women

To be fair, the Drakonid models have never had the implication of breasts. Some of the official art did, but only “male” drakonids were ever in-game (as far as we knew) until Sendrax came and shattered that preconception.

I would still be very open to introducing a degree of sexual dimorphism to the race, though, if it’s made playable. Given that they’re an “uplifted” race some of whom likely originate with mammalian humanoids, it makes sense in a way that doesn’t necessarily hold true for Dracthyr who were intended to copy dragons wholesale as closely as possible.

Drakonids… count me in! :grimacing:

Now that I’m getting settled enough to start to consider an alt or two, I’m hoping even harder for Drakonid. So many possibilities…

Even just listening to banter during raids among the more casual members, it’s pretty glaringly obvious that what they want - and what they were expecting - is playable Drakonids. I truly hope that name drop wasn’t an idle example and was an actual hint of what is coming down the development pipeline.

Last right during the Normal reclear, there was still banter about getting playable Drakonids. People are still by and large sold on Dragonflight and sold on dragons in general to the point that they’d race change in a heartbeat if there was a draconic race they actually wanted to play.

Hell, even the tank and a few melee were saying that they would have played Dracthyr if it catered to their playstyle. But it doesn’t, and won’t. So let’s toss Drakonids at them! Give them something they want to play!

I want the 4 legged version to be playable also.

Those are dragonspawn. A little different originally, but now I’m wondering about their origins. They’ve always been (deliberately) vague, but distinct from drakonid. I would be surprised if dragonspawn were retcon’d to simply be uplifting centaur, in the same way that drakonid are uplifted tarasek.

Either way… I doubt we’d see them playable. At least not with a playerbase that reacted to the lack of transmog for mechagnomes and dracthyr they way we did. They shouldn’t compromise on transmog for any race, and they’d have to for dragonspawn in some way. Not to mention the whole mount issue that would shut them out of a subset of more aesthetic content.

Nothing against it, but I didn’t get very excited about the Drakthyr also… they did tease something in the imagination, tho. Now everytime I see the Drakonid dude lifting the dumbbells I wonder if dreams can ever come true.

Honestly, I think a Drakonid Paladin might be the only thing that could tempt me away from my Evoker at this point. Getting that zealous, but bestial, tone would be fantastic. It would be a fantasy unrealized in a number of ways come to life.

Drakonids/Dragonkin would be a great option.
If you can’t do the 4 legged dragonspawn version, just make a two legged version of that type. Keep the leaner frame for those who wanna play casters. Could use the tarasek as an option as well or explain the two legged dragonspawn as a newer upgraded version of tarasek.

I know people want playable saurok as well. A few reptilian races would be cool.

I’ve said it many a time: if they can give us four flavours of humans and four flavours of Elves, they can give us more flavours of Dragons, Dwarves, Orcs, and more.

Personally, I’d just like to see the Dracthyr approach, but a bit more extreme: just give us Drakonid, but with legitimately diverse body types.

Dragonspawn have been done dirty this expansion. They lost a lot of bulk and I haven’t seen a single representative with the wings some of the more powerful examples sport.

And now that I think about it… virtually all of dragonkind has been slimmed down, to a degree, save for drakonids themselves. They seem to have received a good amount of bulk and ferocity. Yet, they’re locked away… everything that many of us expected in getting a draconic playable race, inaccessible.

I haven’t noticed much of a loss in bulk.
Smaller caster ones are much more common though.
I did forget there even was one with wings…is it just the one or are there others using that same model? Only one I’m seeing is General Drakkisath.

That’s a good example of this particular retcon. He had wings until dragonspawn got new models with Dragonflight. He is now wingless. All of them seem to use what at first glance I would have assumed is the caster/female-coded model.
