Megathread: The Other Half of the Dragon Fantasy - DRAKONIDS

I keep seeing posts about contorting Dracthyr into what the Drakonid already are.

Leave Dracthyr alone as the skinny draconic magic users.

Let Drakonids shoulder the weight of the other classes. They actually have the build for it.

Itā€™s such a shame that this race has been prioritized, especially when World of Warcraft competes with Dungeons and Dragons in the high fantasy genre.

No, because fighting side-by-side with the relatives of the dudes I skinned the hell out of back in Cata would be ā€¦ awkward.

but you can already fight alongside orcs, how is that different?

I never skinned Orcs. Skinned a hell of a lot of drakonids, though.

That just makes it worse.

All Iā€™m saying is that thereā€™s a necessary step between some dude having skinned your uncle, and then having that same dude as your friend and ally, and that step involves a considerable amount of rage, recrimination, and violence.

Curious: what is a ā€œMegathreadā€ supposed to be? Is it some type of attempt to create a discussion that goes on for thousands of posts simply based on including the word in itā€™s title? This topic is five months old with several necro-posts and is only up to 87 posts.

I like Dracthyr. But it remains true that I cannot create a character analogous to my Dragonborn Paladin. The fantasy remains wide open.

Drakonids are the stupid cousins of the Dracthyr. Neltharion made the most powerful drakonids he could for his army, he gave them all the powers of the flights (they are perfect chromatic dragons) and flight.

He then realized their potential was just great and when he couldnt control them he said Ohhh Dragon Droppings! and had to ask for help to seal them in stasis.

The Aspects then decided to never do that againā€¦ and made the dumber, less powerful and non flying servants, The Drakonids.

In the Dracthyr starting area it only took a dozen or so Dracthyr to bring down a massive Primal just to point out how powerful they really are and size doesnt always equate to power. The very fact Dracthyr are chromatic in power makes them Extremely dangerous, hence the response of all the Aspects when Nefarion tried to recreate his fathers work.

As for size, its fair to compare them in size to say a human, compared to an orc compared to a Dracthyr, Dracthyr are actually quite imposingly tall and strong. Could probably rip a humans arms off wookie style.

Werenā€™t Drakonids created first?

This is what we should have gotten, instead of the dracthyr.

No, Dracthyr were created by Neltharion 20,000 years ago as super soldiers and decieded he made them too well and erased their existence from the world, and then made dumber more easily controlled servants.

Its not an accident of unfortunate circumstance that none of the Drakanoids dont have wings.

Thats an intentional design choice to keep servants as servants. Flying is a privlage for only true dragons, and a way to keep power over their subjegated inferiors.

The dragons seem to have a very cruel social structure that your born a dragon or a life long slave and even the dragons are slaves to the Aspect just not as low down the totem pole as Drakonids. Why else would they make them weaker and flightless?

Werenā€™t the tarasek uplifted to be the first drakonids roughly right after the Dragon Aspects themselves were created?

Uplifted, suggests they where artificially evolved, not hand crafted like the Dracthyr.

I imagine its more akin to breeding dogs, some of those tarasek are just about as smart. Bunch of them went to service of the primalists they have no loyalty other then to whatever powerful entity doesnt kill them.

If you walk around Valadraken and talk to npcs Dracthyr you can get a pretty good idea how different we are from the other dragonkins. There is certainly a pecking order and the Tarasak are on the bottom.
Neltharion feared that we the Dracthyr would challenge the dragons themselves one day, and if you talk to the now free will Dracthyr in the city you will see their is no love for the Dragons, and many seeing them as tyrants and oppressors that they dont like but cant do nothing about.

Which brings us to the point that the Sundered Flame are not bad guys, they are Dracthyr who refuse to bend the knee to tyrants and dictators and welcome all dragonkind who feels the same way.

Yet with all the problems with the Primalists these Dragons still find time to send adventures off to kill the Sundered Flame just for defying their will. They are like Adventurer! Go kill these abominable Sundered Flame at this ruins!
When you return they say, Now lets go see what these ruins even areā€¦ They literally only want them dead for any reason just did not bending to their will.

The Scale Commander of the Ebon werym said it best, F the Aspects. Well he said We will never serve another Aspect and left, same thing.

Imagine using newly generated lore to justify not giving us Drakonids instead.

Weā€™ll probably get them as an allied race or something. Though they donā€™t exactly have wings

They should fix nightbour e racials first. There isnā€™t anything for non casters. Instead of adding 1% to magical damage dealt, it should just be add 1% arcane damage to all damage dealt.

Yeah, not gonna happen.

We all know those characteristics are toxic, and we cant have those in current year. Just look at how the manliest race, the Tauren, get to do absolutely nothing, is it a coincidence? doubt it.

I mean, from the outset, some racials havenā€™t been able to be utilized by all available classes. Orcs still do more pet damage. How do you ā€œfixā€ that for classes without pets?

Eh, Drakonids have always been a littleā€¦ attached to the dragonflights. Not enough autonomy or self-determinism to justify asking for them, realistically. Oddly, Dragonflight has changed those perceptions and arguably made them more likely to happen.
