Megathread: Ogres as Playable Allied race

Hahaha Farts.

Ogres would just be perfect. I always prefer the big fatty monster races if available.

The lore is there, and is great. Kul Turans are already big and fat, so an Ogre model should be easy.

Cā€™mon devs. Toss us a bone!

So with the rumors of a time skip after Shadowlands, assuming we may see Cataclysm-like changes for the main continents, I have to wonder what the Horde Ogres would be up to.

Maybe we would finally see the Stonemaul Clan have their home, make it all fancy, and see Tharg as the leader. I would guess between there and Brackenwall Village, they could be quest hubs for whatever storyline would go on in the area. Maybe they wouldā€™ve helped get Dire Maul for the Horde finally and would tie into the storyline in Feralas.

Maybe the Dunemaul Clan would get a new leader and have a Horde outpost in their home area and tie into the questline in that area. Perhaps some of it involves gathering bug parts for a giant Dunemaul feast or something.

The Gorian Ogres that came with the Magā€™harā€¦likely would join up with the Stonemaul Clan and/or just be forgotten about.

Whatever the case, I really donā€™t know what to think about a timeskip. It would really depend on what it involves and how it gets handled. Hopefully the Stonemaul Clan, at the very least, would not be completely forgotten. Itā€™s unclear if theyā€™ll even help out any on Azeroth during Shadowlands, so who knows what theyā€™ve been up to in general since Cataclysm? Of course, the chance of traveling forward in time to an era of playable Horde Ogres is a mighty tempting oneā€¦

So does the new starting zone add any lore to Ogres or are they just random kill mobs?

Theyā€™ve made Kulā€™Tirans, now it would be easy to use their skeletons and name them ogres tbh.

Those are the Darkmaul Ogres, who have no affiliation with Horde and Alliance, and the starting area is roughly the same for both factions, so they both fight against them. Theyā€™re meant as evil jobbers for new players to experience the exciting journey into the world (of Warcraft!).

Having enemy Ogre clans isnā€™t a bad thing. They work well as mooks to beat up and donā€™t hinder any of the Horde Ogresā€™ chances of becoming playable in any way.

Speaking of, I havenā€™t seen anything Horde Ogre related for Shadowlands so far, though Iā€™m always keeping my eye out for that in any expansion. Hopefully, the Horde will remember they have Ogres within their ranks, and that the Stonemaul Ogres are in more debt to the Horde than an irresponsible teenager with their parentsā€™ credit card, and will utilize them.

How awesome would it be if we came back from Shadowlands and the ogres had taken back Dire maul and established a massive capital city and had started a war with the Night elves in feralas?!

I really wished it would happen. All the customizing with the races atm. Give the horde another big strong brute. Iā€™d love to play an ogre, even if itā€™s just a kul tiran reskin.

Ogres are great but deserve the full new race treatment and should be an expansion level feature. I completely understand wanting them as an allied race though.

Yeah I would only be ok with them as an allied race because it can be done. It doesnā€™t seem like a hard task with a reskin of like a kulā€™tiran. I feel like asking for a whole new race/expansion feature is next to impossible.

I still say making them a ā€œKul Tiran reskinā€ would be spitting in the face of people who have wanted Ogres for years longer than the big KTs have even been a thing. Ogres already have a good base to start from.

Thatā€™d probably be Mokā€™Nathal.

Ogres will need something more.

At least thatā€™s my opinion.

Iā€™ve mentioned a few times throughout the megathread about having an event for Ogres similar to how we saw the Echo Islands and Gnomeregan events as part of the pre-Cataclysm launch events. I thought I would go over them briefly, as they were fun events and very memorable, and use them as examples of what I would love to see occur for Horde Ogres.

For those that may not know, back in the day when Cataclysm was coming out, there were two events that occurred to lead into the expansion. The retaking of Gnomeregan (kinda) and the retaking of the Echo Isles.

At the time, I wasnā€™t high enough level to do either event, as I was really into leveling my characters and as such a slow leveler even for my main, but they were big events. It event brought a Troll Druid NPC, which was exciting because of all the new race/class combos coming with Cataclysm.

I found a couple of videos that show off these events that I wanted to share:

Zalazaneā€™s Fall:

The Battle for Gnomeregan:

So how does this relate to Ogres? I mention these events because having something like this lead into playable Ogres would be amazing.

One of the reasons these events were memorable was because it was leading into the new expansion, where we got two new races and new/race class combinations. It was a really fun event to be a part of, with each respective faction coming together to help out one of its members in getting their territory back.

For Ogres, Iā€™ve mentioned two possible event ideas for this:

The main one is in Dustwallow Marsh, where the Stonemaul Ogres finally take their home back and for good. I wrote a scenario in this megathread in three parts to show off what you could do with it a long time ago, and this would be the best event to do, in my opinion.

If you want to read that scenario, Iā€™ll link the three parts here, though itā€™s a bit dated since they were done well before we knew Shadowlands were going to be a thing:

Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

The other is taking over Dire Maul. Both taking over the outside and possibly even taking over it on the inside of it for the Horde. Between the Gordunni Ogres, tying Mokā€™morokk into it, and the Alliance in general, it would be quite the epic battle. Taking over Dire Maul was something the Stonemaul Ogres were helping to do, but itā€™s unclear what is even going on nowadays with them.

Between the two events, the Dustwallow event would likely be the most fun and exciting and would be the one I would choose if only one could be done. The Horde finally banding together and helping the Stonemaul Ogres, and then ultimately getting them inducted as official members of the Horde would be amazing. The Dire Maul event idea works as a secondary event after that.

The idea of such an event is meant as a fun thing for players to do in the game while doing some world building. If weā€™re heading towards a time skip, then it would be awesome to do such an event and then see the Stonemaul Ogres finally have their home back and doing something with it, along with finally becoming a playable Horde race.

All I know is that if the Stonemaul Ogres are ever in need of help, Iā€™ll get my bow, my crocolisk and crab pets, my sense of Horde pride, and be there for them.

Iā€™ve been saying since TBC that all i wanted as a playable horde race is Ogres, , always thought ā€œAlliance can get dryads and a bunch of other things I donā€™t care, just give me my mudhutt boizā€

Would literally let alliance get two races for ogres as a trade at this point
