i honestly don’t think you understand are frustrations right now… a lot of us have family and friends that are playing and we are forced to play on a realm that has a login ques of over 10,000 meaning we don’t even get to play with them. what are we to do with said problem. you won’t let us transfer for free unless we are on a under populated realm but i can’t even play in the afternoon because there are so many players (not characters) on said realms… even tho it’s a medium pop realm.
Then offer them!! I do not desire to start over. I made a lot of progress and would like to continue it not go backwards. 4450 minute que times is ridiculous.
If you’re already in you have disconnect protection and you can sign out for a short time and will still be able to sign in without problems. Your friend hasn’t been on the server.
Poor form was refusing to move servers, and still refusing to move is just asinine.
This is a really bad strategy given that people have made commitments with friends, guilds, and otherwise to roll on a particular server. Now, after launch, the switching cost is exceptionally high. I’m not sure this is a better state to be in than to be on a low pop server and have to transfer to one with more people.
Don’t be a blind fanboy and put this on the general population lol. Literally every server has a queue, this isn’t a “player base refusing to move issue” . Do you also believe that the world is a utopia and the government and corporations care about us ?
Seriously, queues this long don’t even reliably work. Even a single blip in your internet connection or the servers will reset your queue progress, so even if you’re patiently sitting for 4 out of the 5 hours, you can just get screwed randomly.
I specifically rolled on a realm that Blizzard recommended right before launch, was ready at 3pm yesterday, and played all the way almost to level 20. Now, I can’t even login, because there’s a 5 hour queue. What are my options? Give up 12+ hours of progress and reroll? What did I specifically do wrong here?
Welp 4th time now re rolling onto new server, Got to level 12 booted from server/bnet and now stuck in a 2hr queue time GG blizz doing bang up job with keeping players in the game.
Every server didnt though, people are complaining about servers we all knew well in advance would have queues.
Remulos launch was flawless yesterday, so was many of the new servers.
This is ridiculous, you guys only opened 1 RP PVP realm then hours later after leveling my toon, you finally make the decision to make another RP PVP, offer free realm transfers to new RP PVP servers, 2 hour que is stupid
The longer you wait on the free server transfers to low population servers, the more harmful and disruptive it would become a server community. We have identified the problem and a good solution has become evident on both sides. Us the community and you guys at Blizzard. That server transfers is the only logical way to fix a 500 min queue.
Damn right.
Good explanation, thanks.
ANd dont forget the name reservations that people hold dear to them. Also the progress already made by those that were lucky to get in and log out.
You guys are a bunch of hacks. Quite terrible management that you guys couldn’t provide adequate servers for this launch.
I normally do not post but thought to offer some comments:
-
Most importantly, thank you for bringing back classic. I sense I have is that most everyone is deeply appreciative of your efforts. That honest intent has been horribly implemented through your decisions over the last 30 days.

Hohiro’s post is very accurate. Please read it. Thank you Hohiro.

Please remember your users are people with real life friendships and relationships with guild members. In our guild, we moved as a guild to play your game together. We assumed, correctly, that Blizzard did not have a clue and thus we made out server selection on release day 2 hours prior launch to the newest PVP server so as to have the smoothest start and play together. We were welcomed to 6 hour queues. Apparently, we underestimated your incompetence. Even following your guidance we had a terrible gaming experience. You really should apologize.

Currently, I came home early from work to see I am in a 6,000 person queue that is not moving. This is before the end of the normal work day. This is on the Incendious realm that you released yesterday. Tonight is going to be another disaster. I would gently urge you to stop worrying about what is going to happen in six months. You are in the middle of an unmitigated disaster. As the Titanic sinks, you are arranging the deck chairs for a day that will never come as customers jump overboard to save their sanity and mental health.

Because of your decisions, you are in a very difficult position. I know you are working insane hours to try to make it right. Please consider the following:
a. Apologize sincerely. I don’t need a refund yet. I do need a sincere apology.
b. Considering opening additional instances of every server. In other words, Herod becomes Herod 1, Herod 2, and Herod 3, etc. There are free transfers between the internal realm instances for the next week and allow guilds and guild clusters to freely move so as to balance your realms. In the future, retain the right to collapse those instances back into a single realm when the time is right.
To restate, apologize clearly and sincerely. Read Hohiro’s post. Respect guilds and their leadership as they try to make decisions. You might even talk with some of them. Create multiple instances of the existing realms and allow free transfers internally. Retain the right to collapse when appropriate. Know that we are appreciative of you bringing back classic but there are limits to that emotional regard. You have a disaster right now. Address the disaster.
PS Good luck. We want you to succeed.
Well in advance. Servers launched two weeks ago. Many servers launched last night also have queues, some in excess of 5 hours. Well in advance. Right…
Don’t give into forum qq unless it’s legitimately the best thing for the game. Listening to forum qq is how we got retail. You’re taking a good approach for the long term health of the game. Thank you.
I get the plan and your overall strategy, and it definitely looked at first like a viable alternative approach. However considering the way people choose their servers, how they start forming communities, how they flock onto massive realms regardless of potential queues due to prestige/social situations (i can play on one of the first launched WoW servers that will never die AND it has a badass name with all my friends/guild/nationality there!!1 etc), on top of allowing WAY more people to balloon up a server with layering at the beginning to make the bloat even bigger… honestly this doesn’t surprise me in any way.
Considering the massive queues even on now “medium” displaying servers (which btw is quite an unfun surprise to run into), on TOP of having layering take away from the immersion aspect of the world even on RP realms (the first time i logged in i already had to phase out a ton of people just to play with my friends), this right now just is an unpleasant experience.
While the old approach of server creation has it’s own drawbacks, i really think it’d have spread people out much more as they’d have put a stop the bloat much more smoothly due to having had the ability to see where queues would be, while also not idolizing some specific realms cause they were THE place to be which everyone decided to go as it was one of the only places for some time as well.
I really hope you can figure this out and rescue the situation, but at this point i suppose layering isn’t gonna be gone anytime soon as chances are that unless you manage to convince people to remake their communities and commitments over and over just to play the game already, we’re looking at the same if not worse queues later on, especially on the big bloated realms.
In which case, i’d like to ask you to please consider disabling layering on less populated realms, which if you made it public would also give you an advantage in making people spread out onto other less populated realms as people will definitely want the most authentic experience when they get it offered, especially if there’s not so many queues, AND they can get it ahead of time of other realms who still require it.
And yet instead of rolling a toon on a vacant server, they stubbornly CHOOSE to remain in a several hour long queue.
