I have observed that the stutters are much higher in the evening during peak times. This leads me to believe that the stutter issue defiantly is in part with phasing. I was flying around ZM this morning with only minor stuttering but this evening it is really bad when loading in new assets. Like I said it is not game breaking for me but it defiantly interrupts game immersion. One thing that has kept me playing WOW for so long is how well the 3d engine runs.
That’s an interesting observation. Makes sense, too. I have been getting it near nonstop, but I have been logging on alts and joining groups for the world bosses for transmog farming. Every time I joined a group and would phase, it always did stutter. I just tried it again now.
I am also having a ton of issues tonight when attempting Primal Storm events. I play on Moon Guard with my new Dracthyr so I’m not sure if its just lag or if it is the server itself but issues so far include:
- Flight master travel stuttering and dropping me in an area away from where the Primal Storms are supposed to be (was traveling to the Badlands and the game dropped me in the Burning Steppes). Flight master gryphon would not let me exit when it landed for a solid couple of minutes.
- Upon exiting flight master and trying to use my own mount, the mounting animation would play but no mount would spawn in (was using the Frostbound Proto-Drake mount)
- Tested spell animations and found there was lag there as well. No animations for spells or attacks would trigger. Attempting to use Glide resulted in no gliding animation loading.
Can anyone else on Moon Guard confirm if they are having issues similar to this?
I’m getting the same on all my toons, stutters/delays in anything appearing on screen, whether it’s spells, noise, npcs, players.
I take a long time to phase in and out of anywhere, everything seems to load slower now. I used to run 7-8 graphics overall pre 10.0, now I’ve got it down to the lowest, no addons installed, reset UI, repaired & reinstalled the game. Still doing the same thing.
It’s frustrating because I cant actually enjoy gameplay in real time, there’s such a delay with anything happening that I see spells & hear the noises of gameplay/spells 5-10 minutes AFTER it’s happened. No idea what to do.
Yeah, the pop-ins are bad and performance horrible. 20 fps on my high-end PC at invasions. Doesn’t seem like we get any acknowledgment.
The invasions certainly exacerbate the issue due to the sheer number of people crammed into one spot. Slightly off topic but you would think Blizzard’s layering tech would be employed to cap the number of players in one spot to a reasonable level to allow a high end PC to get at least 60fps during events such as these…
Don’t think there’s anything really to do except wait for Blizzard to fix it, if ever. I’d imagine they are at least planning some kind of fix in the future, simply based on the blue post in here couple weeks ago, and the relatively noticeable amount of people complaining about these issues, buuuut WHEN they might be doing this is a big concern. They may decide to push us aside and go for a crappy on target launch, or try to implement a fix right before or at DF launch on the 28th. who knows at this point. Somehow I doubt blizzard even knows
When 10.0 was implemented, only Oribos had a stutter for me and after the 15th, even Stormwind, which had no problem for me with the band-aid solution, had stutter points now.
They say we can all dream and I have a small dream that Microsoft will buy this crappy company soon and put good interns or professional and competent people to work on the game.
We buy the expansions, pay the damn monthly fee and it’s always this disgraceful neglect with us and always this mess when they’re going to release an expansion in a hurry. Why mess with the damn graphics engine if you don’t know how to do it masterfully? To hell with Blizzard and his garage trainees.
as i before, they are most likely giving priority to the launch since people who already paid for it is most likely able to play, on my end i didnt buy the expac as soon as it came cuz i learned my lesson with shadowlands, i was waiting patiently and when i was about to… boom this sh!t happens, thank god i didnt buy it and already cancelled my sub so ima just sit and watch how this fairs
for what its worth, if I alt tab to chrome and go back quickly the stutter fixes 90% of the itme
Thats interesting. I do tab in and out alot…
Ill test this later without highhopes lol
I assumed you guys like me, tested the game with one monitor and no unnecessary background programs running. The pop-in is most likely due to the increased draw distance everywhere, and some cache problems that causes stutters when loading in players especially. As for longer loading times and low fps at invasions or world bosses, that could be a whole other issue.
We are one. I’ll be monitoring this thread very closely in the future… going by how bad Shadowlands was, particularly in the first year, I doubt we’ll miss much. Tons of other awesome games to play in the meantime.
My staunch anti-preordering stance saved me from yet another rage-inducing disappointment.
Yeah, I tried it with every mod off, no discord in the BG, etc. I don’t keep much stuff open for this reason.
25 days and this still hasn’t been fixed. Anywhere with big crowds or cities, Oribos especially, the dumb primalist invasions, or any populated server is just nearly unplayable. I have installed/uninstalled numerous different GPU drivers. I have deleted entire addons and didn’t reinstall them, disabled everything, reset the UI, literally everything imaginable. At this point, all these things have likely broken my PC in some form because now I can’t run multiple games.
Fix your game, Blizzard.
The problem I usually see with the “pop-ins” is that even with the view distance and everything turned all the way up, I am not seeing practically anything or anyone til I’m damn-near right ontop of them or it before it finally phases in on my screen.
Pre-Patch 10.0 drop I had everything cranked up to 10 and there was no issue of stutter, lag, items and people could be seen from miles away…now it feels like my view distance for people, enemies, and things is all but dialed back to a 3 or so, and its really just disheartening having known the game over it’s last 18 years and never having seen such a horrible visual hiccup in all that has been WoW, be it day one 2004 Vanilla or any of its 9, soon to be 10 games deep…til this.
From a steady 100-140fps at all times, be it combat or otherwise…to now i am sitting in my covenant’s perch, hardly holding 30-40fps… Go to an invasion for the Elementals event and everything turns into a stop and go, pause and skip slideshow of barely holding 10-15fps if i am lucky… Its just horrid.
Same EXACT problem. Literally like dried out spongebob in sandy’s dome gasping for WATER over here, Blizzard. Please fix. Blue post at least. The draw distance pop in is INSANELY bad. FIX. PLEASE.
… FIXXX…
… WAAAATERRRR…
Unless they were a special enemy, like a world boss, enemies have always have a phase in distance of around 100 or 150yds. This is still the case today.
For low priority detail objects, that’s likely intentional. Dragonriding is much faster than regular flying, so assets are going to be streaming in and out at a much faster rate. It would be a waste of CPU/IO cycles to try to load or display low priority decorative doodads that are only going to be rendered for a second tops as you zip by, when it’s going to need to load a bunch of important “world shaping” models and scenery coming up. The engine seems to wait for a second or so before trying to load or display the non-essential objects, to make sure it’s “worth it to waste resources on.” There is no IO bottlenecking going on with the drives, CPU or GPU. I’ve tested this very extensively now, so I can only reason it out to be like I just said.
What they DO need to do though is add in some branching logic for the detail popins so that if you’re on a regular mount or in the world on foot, those assets stream in at a normal rate and don’t wait so long to phase in. Then, when you do the high speed dragon riding, it will use the delayed loading on low priority assets.
Why is this applied to every single zone/area then? Like Zereth Mortis is bad with the pop-ins now, I know for a fact it wasn’t like that before pre-patch. And the stutter loading in players wasn’t there before. Areas seems dead, then everyone appears out of thin air.
Seems way less immersive if dragon riding and assets keeps appearing/disappearing. This game sorely needs better multicore support and to actually update us on the progress fixing the current mess.
Yes, I know this Pawgwalker is a troll, but I will keep trying.
Yes since the pre-patch launched a few weeks ago now I did notice some glitches or stutters if you will that were not there prior to the patch. Mainly in Oribos or crowded areas, but in other places as well.
I kind of thought Blizzard was aware and it would just sort itself out over the weeks. I am very surprised it hasn’t. This is also coming from someone who makes sure that everything is updated and it’s not an addon causing it or a driver.
