Massive stutters with DF client

As of tuesday’s reset i have non stop stutters. Disabled all addons and made sure my graphics driver was up to date. No change.

If you’re using Reflex or Reflex+Boost, make sure you disable the separate FPS limiter, as Reflex is effectively an FPS limiter, capping frames 3-4 below a monitors refresh rate. I found disabling the FPS limit will remove Stutters.

I mean the reply I got in the ticket… was… No words… I had linked the video in this forum that shows the stuttering we are facing on the best hardware out there.

You can’t really explain that away easily can you…especially when it’s reproducible on the best h/w out there, over and over.

The game looks like garbage as well because all the assets just pop in

This is not correct for the stutter issue in this post.

Add me on the body pile - freezes in raid and dungeons sometimes, but not all the time but last nights raid was almost unplayable.

**Edit, I never post on the forums and noticed this posted from a Classic character I don’t play anymore, I primarily play Shadowlands and the issues happen there!

Steps I have tried:
Dropping graphics down to basically mobile (yes I have a phone)
Disabling all of my addons
Repair
Reinstall
Ran Memory Check and Disc Check
Reupdated all drivers

Everything else on this pc runs like butter including FF14 on max settings

Windows 10
Intel I9-11900KF
Geforce RTX 3080
32gb Ram

If you are running Windows 11 try turning off “Optimizations for windowed games”. This fixed the issue for me. I’m not sure if there is an equivalent setting in windows 10.

Worked for me, so for some it may be correct. As for Reflex being an FPS limiter, it most certainly is and how it functions.

Reflex wasn’t even added without editing config file until latest patch, and the stuttering has been happening since October (and on Df Beta).

this is the cause of half of it, became even more broken with recent patch.

type in
/console ScriptErrors 1
to display errors

switch the 1 to a 0 to turn it off. See for yourself.

Interesting. I wonder if this is a factor. I suspect however it is more complicated. Like 5 different factors playing a part. Since playing without sound for me gets rid of 95% of all stutters.

To be fair performance is slightly better for me this patch. Game is no longer freezing upon login at least…

I mean you really can’t…

I will post the comment from the GM in regard to this from my ticket in response to linking the video you linked in this forum.

“Checking that video, this pretty much matches what we would expect to see in game, with FPS in areas without many other players around being much better, while areas with other players around being lower - this is completely expected for the game and not a sign of problems. Especially in places like Battlegrounds like showed at the timestamp you linked or in major cities with a lot of people around, it is entirely expected to have much lower framerate due to the amount of players and actions happening on screen, and this is the reason the game includes a separate graphics setting for Raids and Battlegrounds so lower settings can be picked to help keep the framerate over 60 FPS in those areas.”

Nice one blizzard. Not even the top of the top hardware can handle this 20 year old game. Thats hilarious…

I honestly had no words when I first read the response.

I played towards end of Cata all of Mist. And for a bit in WOD. Then again in Legion. I raided hardcore in Mist and raided in end of Legion. I did all types of testing during Mist. Never have I seen the stuttering like I have seen since returning…

I remember when in Mist people has issues with the graphics (When they added new graphics and the effects)… But I don’t remember it being this bad. Not with what I have experienced and read/heard.

That response is such BS, lower fps is expected but NOT stutters, never had that in previous expansions.

I definitely agree with you. I NEVER experienced this stuttering I have with this expac.

I mean the fact all the prebuilds that were tested at your workplace and the common issue with them was WoW. No matter what the PC/Laptop/Mac is the stutters are there.

Low fps I expect in raids and bgs and crowed areas. But the stuttering to this degree? I mean ffs it’s in vanilla areas and BE starting zone.

I did the testing guys, its right here. Clean install, no players around, no addons, settings on lowest possible.

That graph on upper left shows the fps and frametime, just look at the huge dips as i use some skills. I later tried putting my old AMD RX 480 and the results are the same.

This issue has been happening way before that was added to the game. I never said it wasn’t a limiter.

I have been doing some testing, i have installed Windows 10 and Windows 11 To see if it was an operating system issue.
I don’t like Windows 11 but for some reason I don’t see so much Stutters on Windows 11 than in Windows 10, if anyone else is using windows 11 can you confirm if this is happening there too?
I am running both operating systems because this is just for testing, I am IT after all.
