Mass reporting carries in chat

I don’t think anybody was really spamming to that extent, most of the messages I saw were like once every 2-3 minutes and trade chat has been pretty lit today so they’re not hanging around long.

oh, i’m pretty sure it’s going on. it’s the same people who report anyone they think is multiboxing, even though multiboxing isn’t against TOS. it’s the same people who report anyone who undercuts them at the AH for “botting”.

Most of the messages i seen after blizz released the policy was every 30 seconds, most were guilds advertising for future runs on multiple toons (exactly the same message so i reported them all) and a few that still had websites listed.

I also reported over 50 within the group finder (mostly in arena and custom channels) over maybe 30 mins.

It wasn’t that blatant here but this is also a relatively high pop server with lots of top guilds who suddenly need to find buyers.

Remember, this is monday during the day… most guilds selling CE need to find buyers by tomorrow night suddenly because they’re cut off from communities now. I’m sure it isn’t that drastic but most of the guild spam is probably going to happen on weekends lining up buyers for the following week.

Groupfinder and others will ALWAYS have spam though and those aren’t individual boosters… they’re always RMT websites lol

Ultimately blizz needs to build in some other mechanism to let people “advertise” services or almost have a LFG system built in directly for local guilds/players on your server to advertise.

e/ The end result of this is that people have more trouble finding boosts and go the RMT route and end up with their CC info on chinese/russian servers lol the sad truth is boosting doesn’t die, just less risky boosting.

Player reports can only squelch you. That silence came from a GM.

I’m going to report ads in group finder no matter what because they don’t belong there, ads for carry communities everywhere, and ads for guilds selling carries only if it’s obnoxious/spamming.

This was 4.30 - 5am on an OCE server, Frostmourne the highest Alliance pop server in the world, within maybe 20 seconds and on repeat non stop.

There’s always going to be people who are dumb AF and annoying. 100% report those people for spam and I’d even report community people for spam myself even though I was a booster for a few lol but in general most people are going to be well behaved and any reporting is just trolling and/or misunderstanding the ToS

Sounds more like inviting for it is fine but you cant advertise it in game as it is disruptive. So no using trade chat for it.

Nah, they said somewhere else in the post that you can use in game trade chat to still advertise so long as you aren’t doing it as a community (middlemen, etc)

I mean, no?

going to go ahead and say prob spamming that the day that blizzard actually does something and nukes the boosters is prob, not a good idea. Like wait a few weeks for things to calm down

The lovely community swings in all directions, you’re never safe no matter who or what you do. Then again why would you even put yourself in the crosshair right after they announced something like this? Most people would be waiting a few days to let things cool down before starting to “spam” chat with their services again.

Some people just can’t read rooms or check the atmosphere.

“False reporting” sounds like a problematic concept. Are you spamming your individual carries? If you are, knock it off. If not, you’ll be fine–that’s why GM’s look at the reports.

Because it can cause the reported player to be automatically “squelched” in game and deny them the ability to use chat channels for something that isn’t even against the rules. In that case the people who are breaking the rules are those knowingly falsely reporting someone. They are the ones that should be punished.

Being wrong about facts or the rule is not the same as “knowingly falsely reporting someone.”

Fair enough, the CS can inform them of their mistake and that continued misuse of the feature will result in punishment.

It’s not always easy to see whether your ad is for permitted services or not. I wouldn’t expect to see any action taken against people reporting, unless you can show that there is a coordinated and intentional effort to report you (which you would not be able to show except under very weird and specific circumstances). I’d recommend identifying your guild in your posts, being on a 60 in that guild when you post, and not posting more often than once every few mins.

Then the ability for player to trigger the automatic silence needs to be removed. It should have never been added to begin with, the player base in this game isn’t mature enough for that kind of power.
