Do you have any idea what the latency would be? It takes a radio wave (that is a form of light) anywhere from 5-20 minutes to reach earth depending on both of their perihelion and aphelion. Then on top of that, you need to wait for a reply signal.

Electricity travels at the speed of light. That means data is also hard capped at that speed and therefore ping is going to be twice the distance from the server (you need a back and forth response).
Letâs assume (for fun) that the server is on earth and you are on mars. Since mars and earth both orbit the sun their distance relative to each other changes drastically. The distance from earth to mars changes from ~3 light minutes to ~22 light minutes. So the best ping you can experience is between ~360,000ms and ~2,640,000ms (have to multiply by 2 since it has to go to earth and back).
Fun fact. Light has this limitation on earth too. Light takes about 50 milliseconds to travel from the US to Europe so your minimum ping would be 100 milliseconds.
Iâm really hoping we discover some way in quantum physics to overcome this limitation so we can build an internet in the solar system, an intra-galactic internet, and an inter-galactic internet. As a drop off point Mars is a good idea but to stay colonize it ,I would think hard on that. If we know,and we do ,the sun would fry us in no time there because the atmosphere is thinner there than earth.
