As someone who first played WoW 22 years ago, and have been on and off for the last 10, I’ve loved the game. Through all the changes, good and bad, nerfs, buffs etc I could stick it out and find myself enjoying myself more times than not. After about a 6-8 month break, I’ve come back, and LOVE the look of everything. First login, was bombarded with a wonky crazy UI that involved apparently a controller scheme. After about a week of fine tuning and adjustments, it at least felt familiar again, and I could navigate things a bit easier. I’d planned my return ahead of time, as to start right as the new season does, so I can keep 1 character, my main, on par with everyone else and move at a chill pace. Referring to pvp I have 0 intent of doing a single drop of pve, PAST questing to level. No dungeons, no heroics, just sitting around town in Pvp queues, with netflix in the back. With that said, this whole “Set bonus” thing is awesome, and I enjoy the slow roll out. Which means, we’ll all get our first 4 sets together! If its op, we can enjoy being op before it’s nerfed which is always fun too.
Here’s where my trouble begins. I have a child, and I work a full time job. I do my taxes, and pay my bills and my job requires an extreme amount of attention to detail. I don’t want to have to read the fine print in a video game. When everyone else got their 4th set piece on tuesday, I was so excited to kick it off, and used manaflux on boots. Last I checked, Head, Shoulders, Chest, Gloves, and pants were a set. I immediately realized the nonsense mistake that had been made, and ran to blizzard for help. I think we all know how that goes. “Sorry, the game you pay to play, has a set of arbitrary rules that prevents us from keeping this game fun for you. Keep paying your sub though.” All I hear is “Yea, since you didn’t read the fine print and treat the video game like your taxes, for the next 2 weeks, your main is going to be subpar at best, and probably frustrating if you decide to play knowing everyone has a one up on you. This is a vent, because as much as I feel wronged by you, for ruining a fun experience for me, the truth is it IS my fault. I made a mistake and here are my consequences. I’m motivated to find another game to soak up my time because this is just an irksome mechanic. I hate presenting problems without solutions so here’s 2.
- You recognize no ones perfect, and you have some children playing the game, make a second warning “This item will not complete your set bonus.” because that damn sure would’ve made me stop and say, “Oh wait let me check something real quick.” rather than letting my excitment bred by anticipation, fuel my rapid “YESSSSS IM GETTING MY 4 PIECEEEEEE OMGOMGOMG” moment into a miserable almost threw my laptop pacing the room cursing kind of moment. Seriously. I have 2 weeks off straight, and it won’t be spent on my beautiful now ruined hunter.
- Allow a 2-hour refund on the manaflux if not equipped.
All that takes work on your end, so this won’t ever even be considered I’m sure. Don’t be surprised if my sub stops though. You keep being you, until another company comes along and shows you how much more you could make, if you actually appeased the player base, and treated the video game as it is, a video game.
