Malfurion is, ostensibly, the Night Elf leader with Tyrande. But while it’s very possible to make a Night Elf that looks like Tyrande, Malfurion looks nothing like playable night Elves.
No I’m not talking about how he has a waist that could hold internal organs while playable male Night Elves are all spine from their hips to their ribs. I could complain about that all week, but that’s not what this thread is about.
This thread is about wanting a Nelf race with animal traits like Malfurion’s antlers and wings.
Malfurion’s animal traits are a sign of how druidy he is, so giving Night Elves of all classes animal traits wouldn’t make sense lore-wise. Meanwhile we can’t just give Night Elf druids animal customizations and leave the other druid races out.
Thankfully there’s an allied race option that provides an air-tight lore explanation for Nelves with animal traits without making Blizzard model cat ears for every single druid race: Night Elf Worgen.
Worgenisim started with the Night Elves as a failed druidic shapeshift. The scythe of Elune previously calmed the Worgen and helped them regain their sanity, but now it’s just another casualty of Legion ruining legendary weapons for the sake of borrowed power systems.
So what if Malfurion tried to use his own druidic gifts to heal the original Worgen without it? We could have sub-race of Night Elves that are inherently more druidic than the rest of their kind, while also allowing them to use classes other than druid.
Malfurion fans can make characters more like him. Anime fans can make cat-girl elves. Worgen fans get more Worgen lore. It’s a win for everyone involved.
