Malfurion in Ardenweald

Old topic, but I’m only just now getting to this part of the campaign. When Malfurion decides to trade places with Ysera in Ardenweald, he mentions that Ysera gave her life to save his in Val’sharah. Obviously this is referring to Legion when Xavius corrupted Ysera and she had to be fought and killed.

Except Malfurion wasn’t really part of that. He was present, trapped by Xavius, but Ysera’s death had nothing to do with him. Ysera died because Xavius sicced her on the Temple of Elune, and Malfurion wasn’t even there, because he’s in Darkheart Thicket.

So… What is Malfurion talking about? Am I missing something, or is this just stupid? Is this just a case of Shadowlands butting in and making something else awful by association?

Nu-Blizzard doesn’t know the game’s lore and hopes you don’t either.

While it does seem a stretch she did become corupted and die because of Malfurion being rash.

being rash? he was ambushed when trying to save Cenarius whom he obviously cares about.

Which he ran pel mel into because he was being rash. If he had been a bit more thoughtful he may not have been ambushed.

Was he supposed to just let Cenarius die?

The expediency and reaction was warranted because someone he cares about was threatened, the same could be said for why Y’sera also acted rashly to save him leading to her own demise.

The simple fact is Xavius outsmarted them all, he played heavily on the fact that they would be lured into a trap to save someone they care about. The fact that this whole thing is played up as somehow either Malfurion or Y’sera’s fault is absurd. It’s the same level of absurd as the writers blaming Uther for how Arthas turned out.

It was Malfurion going on a headstrong rage against Xavius that led Ysera on a chain of actions that led to her corruption and made it ultimately needful for Tyrande and the Champion to take her down.

It’s his guilt over his mistakes that drives him to make the connection.

Cenarius was dead before he went on his impulsive rampage that served no purpose but to put himself in Xavius’s claws.

It’s not being played up as it IS Malfurion’s fault. It’s being played up as Malfurion having a legitimate case of survivor’s guilt in which HE makes that conclusion. It’s an important distinction.

No. If that were the case, Ysera would never make the distinction that only Malf could swap with her.

Yes it is… Not just anyone can make that swap… it has to be someone who is powerfully imbued with Nature. Tyrande doesn’t make the cut… the Champion doesn’t make that cut. (Even if you’re playing a Night Elf, Druid, or Hunter or combination of same.) Only Goldy Eyes qualifies.
