I just love how at 60 on a warrior/paladin you’ll have to gear 100% full mitigation including rings/trinkets/neck and absolutely dumpster all stat prioritization and offensive stats in the namesake of getting defense cap for things like Twin Emps/Patch/etc…
and shaman/rogue/druid/warlock get all of that power budget for free by one button press and three mouse clicks.

i agree and this is why i like tanking in tbc and wrath more than vanilla even tho i still tank. im 11/0/20 for paladin in alot of dps gear to hold threat from my warlock in my raid pumping 800-1k dps. but in tbc and wrath its pretty much full mitigation all the time which is the way ur suppose to build as a tank.
Shaman haters acting like warriors won’t be dw tanking all of endgame while topping meters.
…what balance? We just went pure DPS almost at all times from start to finish thanks to World Buffs. It only happened to involve Tank gear from time to time because there were literally no other options for more DPS stats.
Jsyk, in full BiS TPS/furyprot gear for classic era phase 6 (full nax) - you’re at 363 defense. Defense cap is 430 to be uncrit/uncrush. To be 430 defense requires sacrificing nearly all of your offensive stats, up to and including dual wielding. This makes them still able to be crit on Twin Emps because Unbalancing Strike is -100 defense - and 530 defense is not obtainable in game.
A shaman in 100% naked gear with white pants on that has WoTE runed has 430 defense. At level 12. Comparatively, Shamans cannot be crit by Twin Emps, period, even after Unbalancing Strike. -100 defense is irrelevant when you have an innate crit immunity. Twin Emps, and Patchwerk are the two premier “tanks are very important” fights of Classic WoW.
Objectively, it looks like Rogue will be the 100% best single-target threat-dps tank for endgame activity due to RWTP + Evasion + Crit immunity, especially once you add in burst threat from things like Adrenaline Rush.
If you’re gonna say some dumb nonsense, at least understand the conversation.

Classic threat generation has never been a fun thing. The new tanks are able to circumvent it, which leaves the old tanks in a worse feeling position. But you have to play around the tank you have, not the tank you want to have
RPG. Learn what that means.
Modern wow has simply warped your understanding.
It’s a bad suggestion and you’ve made the same poorly worded post twice now. GG.
Should probably check the numbers on this one again.
Again, tanking is a role, not a spec. You balance mitigation and threat so that you can hold aggro (obviously requires staying alive), and deal damage, in that priority order.
If you can do that job best in a damage oriented spec, then do it. If you die in that spec then run something else. The class fantasy of being a bubble boy that enemies really wanna hit just doesn’t make sense. Imagine enemies stayed aggressive on Paladins when they were immune lol
I had to dps tank with this mage. Then I died, a lot(lack of effort to heal me or shield me and my 870 hp unbuffed). Then I was chastised to watch my agro. i/e can’t use living bomb on aoe trash packs. I felt really useful and respectful of the guild/raid leaders mad decisions!
I miss tanks that use AoE taunt!
AOE taunt for warriors and druids only holds aggro for 6 seconds and unless they surpass the amount of threat you are generating during that 6 seconds, you’re still going to have aggro.
As I am pretty sure this is the same guy making the same complaint and not fully understanding how tanking in Classic works, I will state again, asking for defensive stats to be worthwhile is the wrong request. Warriors need more resources or cost reductions to be effective full prot tanks. The problem with Warriors is getting raged starved in fights and not being able to generate threat because of this.
That’s a 10m cooldown for Warriors btw

This happens when people rip threat, which is a self fulfilling cycle. They rip threat, so the tank isn’t getting hit, so they don’t have rage, so they lack resources to build the necessary threat back. Typically this happens when someone is hitting X, so if they spend resources trying to get X back they lose skull in the process lol
It’s like we’re re-re-learning all the same lessons we had to readjust to in 2019.

The big thing this time around is other viable tanks which makes re-education harder.

Absolutely. Paladins getting their Wrath kit in Vanilla was simply a mistake. Shaman are on another level.

For warrior tanks, I just wish shield slam scaled off of something beyond shield block value. Or that the threat from it was increased without changing how it scales in damage. I’m not complaining about other classes being able to tank. That adds a lot of fun for a lot of people. My problem is that, as a warrior, you would think that spec’ing deep prot would have some kind of benefit for tanking.
Deep prot benefits tanking by providing mitigation, but other trees will always have better threat since damage is threatening.
I mean, you could make some kind of RPG argument for shield slam being a way to physically control enemy position (thereby being threatening). It just feels weird because WoW positioning is not tactical or RPG-like whatsoever.
Where is there any mitigation beyond the 11th point that it takes to spec into improved shield block?
Last Stand, Shield Wall, etc
The tree has a lot of options to help threat generation too, including Shield Slam.
Well, I was full prot leveling in Classic and tanked on and off for years on every class that can tank. I do feel it was easier to hold threat on targets then, but prot warrior tanks require a really high APM to be successful. I was actively losing threat on targets I was attacking, but when I had 4-6 mobs hitting me, I could spam TC and rend/sunder tab everything.
While I agree with OP about Prot needing a boost, I think the best way to fix it is to add ways to get rage outside of just block, weapon swings, and damage taken. If the buffed Focus Rage by an additional 2-3 rage or made Endless Rage not compete with Devastate, it might be better. Or make Devastate additionally add a rage cost reduction across the board by like 2, it would be a big benefit.
That’s why Fury/Prot is so much better, you have essentially unlimited rage.
