2 out of the three specs do use a two-hander, so that’s a pretty established norm.
Protection is the odd duck out of the bunch, but that’s because unless you’re a Footman the Warcraft universe is absolutely allergic to shields.
If you want to tank with a 2h str weapon, bdk is waiting for you right there.

There are a lot of alternative weapon options, if only blizz wasn’t panicked about balance and/or loot distribution whining:
Rogue - ranged
Hunter - DW
Prot Paladin - 2h
Blood DK - DW
DH - 2h
Unholy DK - DW
non-DH - glaives
Enh Sham - 2h
The ridiculously restrictive weapon options are simply laziness.

You can see my frustration when I am running a 22 everbloom and died fairly quick.
I even yelled at the healer it was until two or three deaths that I saw the text on my screen saying you must have a shield equipped to use this ability

it is not bad design it is you chasing an item that is unfit for your role because you never bothered to look into what the item actually was.

This is on blizzard. No where does it say I can’t wield a 2 hander as a tank.

I’m complaining I can’t tank with a 2 hander without a shield.
blood dks do not have “block” as an option for their mitigation, neither does Vengeance DH or guardian druids.
blocking is essential to prot paladins’ mitigation, so removing the requirement to wear a shield to block would essentially break the spec.
