Maining a mage

Mage is always the right choice!

Just het the other talent.

Dude, mages are masters of kiting…

And u can be sure ONE spec will be at least good in any expansion.

That shouldn’t be the only solution, given how much of a difference there is in damage between IF and ROP, even for “sustained” profiles like Frost. It’s a non-competitive talent slot and the devs should be disgusted that it’s been that way for so long. Either remove it, or make the alternative at least relatively close so the sweaties can still act like they’re better than everyone while the rest of us aren’t stuck losing 10% damage because we feel ROP breaks the spec.

In PVE yes, and potentially at high lvl pvp (I wouldn’t know, I haven’t touched it since they forced it on people in Mists). That is of course as long as the mob isn’t immune to snares. For PvP, it’s been noted that so many classes have multiple gap-closers and Frost has had that many nerfs to its slow that now it’s a bit of a meme.

Fire. It will be Fire, just like SL, BFA, Legion, WoD etc. Arcane might be able to cheese one or two bosses, but it will either suck on others or get nerfed out the whazoo.

That’s a weird way to spell Hunter.

Ive mained resto shaman for the past 8 years and will be playing mage for dragonflight. Playing mage is a breath of fresh air . Its certainly worth rolling if you need a change.

Here’s the list of classes you can’t kite on your own if they are good players :

  • Fury warrior
  • Demon hunters
  • Rogues
  • Feral and guardian druids
  • Windwalker Monks
  • Deathknights
  • Retribution paladins with improved freedom

That leaves enhancement shamans. I’m pretty sure you can kite those most of the time. But while you’re kiting them, they are free to spam you with purges, which is a real pain.

Kiting in PvP is nearly obsolete.

I often wish my Mage has a heal, and or more mobility. I feel like they’re good at maximum range, and there’s better options for anything closer.

I’m just coming back looking to have fun, and play casually. Hoping for a breath of fresh air.

Except when Shimmer/blink bugs because a rock is 2 feet in front. And they keep increasing the cd.

Consider a hunter, much easier.

I would love to see them fix warrior so that when they charge they only move 1 or no feet same with heroic leap.

What if monk rolls errored out and they had a chance fail like a blink does.

Same with demon hunters. How about if double jumps and glide didn’t work but consumed the CD.

Sad truth is right now mage is only good in a controlled environment when you have a tank and a healer.
Also mages are supposed to be a glass cannon but without the ilvl you are just glass.

Id strongly advice you against going mage on retail unless you have masochistic tendencies

Monk rolls do error out as does Flying Serpent Kick. I once used FSK and ended up 25 yards behind where I triggered the ability.

We havent been cannons in a long time… glass for sure though

I played pvp in S3, mages had pretty good kiting, not as good as hunter but second place in the ranged classes i think, mages gained alot more kiting skills in DF, didnt played the beta but i think they’ll be the best class on thas aspect.

Idk, my pvp experience claims that only DHs can keep up with mage’s big kite uptime.

Watch Venruki or Xaryu, they can kite anything.

They have now in DF.

Thats true.

There’s a difference between kiting and running away. They mostly know when to engage. If they stayed in the fight without using the lines of sight and “kite,” they would get deleted like anyone else.

Honestly, if you manage to kite feral druids, I’m pretty impressed with you. But in reality, I would put you up against any good one, and they would probably make you question why you bother playing a mage.

I ran a dungeon with this mage you see me posting on, and I almost rage quit because of blink constantly getting stuck on the smallest things in front of me.

The blink seldom working is a feature of the mage kit. It’s incredibly awesome in PvP when you press blink and get stuck on some grain of sand blocking your path.

It won’t make you feel like an idiot, as some warrior reshapes your face, punishing something entirely outside your control.

Give mages a magical “Concussive Shot”. Mages can’t even cast while moving, most of the time, so it’s not like you can call it OP.

I’ve always avoided playing mages or hunters in favor of melee or my shammy for as long as I can remember. Decided to give mage a go this xpac and I have had a blast so far!

Started with Ice and was tuned into that spec for about 15 levels. It just seemed underwhelming to me and before long I found myself inexplicably and hesitantly drawn to arcane one evening. I haven’t looked back or even logged into my main or alts. Arcane is just fun to play!

I firmly believe that you don’t pick arcane. Arcane picks you.

Cheers!

I mean I would hope so, given they’re considered the best Mages in the world for years running. If they were having issues then we’d all be screwed. I’d warrant though that at a similar skill level most other specs could keep up with them, particularly those with 5 gap closers. That said, I don’t really care considering my pvp experience since Cata consists of going AFK in a BG to get the cloak.
