Having same exact problem
Still no updates? They can’t even let us roll back the installer? Rather sad state of affairs.
Seriously. One blue post pretty much saying we’re SOL almost a week ago and that was it.
Setup: M1 Max 14inch
I followed what was suggested in this post which worked for me to download classic: https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/m1-mac-battlenet-and-agent-broken-stopping-wow-installation/453524/17
- Close Battle.net
- In Finder, got to the /Battle.net/ folder
- Delete the /Agent/ Folder
- Open Battle.net and install classic wow
M1 Max - starting having problems last week with the launcher trying to update but creating 3-4 processes each at 260% CPU - requiring a force quit. Eventually got it to update after a handful of tries.
Now my WoW (Not Responding) just bouncing over and over when trying to launch.
I have another M2 Pro Mac and it’s doing the same thing there (with the launcher doing a handful of 100% CPU processes and locking up).
What the heck is going on?
Going to try the post right above mine - Bluth and will report back.
This did not work for me (Removing Agent Folder, uninstalling Battle.Net and reinstalling).
What did work for me was going to Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access — and hitting the + on the bottom left – searching for Battle.Net (make sure to choose This Mac) - and adding that, and then restarting Battle.net.
I’m now sitting in WoW Classic on my Mac when I couldn’t before. But I don’t like giving apps that are this poorly programmed full disk access…
Make sure to open Activity Monitor and end task on all the Battle.net agents and Wow.exe running at 100% cpu…
I can’t believe this hasn’t been fixed already after all this time of people reporting this. I guess they gotta save money to pay the executives somehow. We’ll keep paying.
I did the above and it did not work for me
Did you try uninstalling battle.net and making sure to wipe out the Library → Application Support folder - then reinstalling too?
Even with my actions above it was acting a little weird. Somethings not right with this latest launcher.
I have access to 2 Macs and both did the same thing today strangely enough.
Sorry to hear it didn’t work for you.
Definitely a state that Battle.net gets into. I turned off full disk access after closing Battle.net and … works just fine (till the next update I guess?). .
Is there a solution to this yet? I wanna play WoW on my mac I’m addicted to the game and I cannot wait! I’ve tried all of the above with no success.
i’ve tried all the “fixes” short of being able to put WoW from a windows PC to my mac since i don’t have access to that and nothing is working. The fact that this has barely received any attention and we have been robbed of paid game time with no blue post addressing that is really upsetting.
Blizzard, this is ridiculous.
This has all been happening to me too.
Please fix this Blizzard.
After a week of discoveries, I finally find a way around this issue but still, this doesn’t solve the problem under the hood. Blizzard teams need to fix this “unable to install WOW on Mac” issue on their side. I installed WOW retail but it should work with WOW Classic as well. Here is how I did:
Prerequisite: you need a copy of the Data
folder from an installed WOW game from either Mac or PC.
- Remove the Battle.net app and agent folder. refer to this article: https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/34719. I deleted both
/Users/Shared/Battle.net
and/Users/Shared/Blizzard
- Install a fresh Battle.net app, log in, and start installing WOW. Then you should face the exact same issue we’ve been discussing above. Wait for initializing step to be stable and exit the battle.net app and open your Activity Monitor, go to CPU, force quit all agent apps.
- Locate your
World of Warcraft
folder, and copy and paste your preparedData
folder into the/Applications/World of Warcraft
. The idea is that if we cannot download the game, simply copy the game data into our Macs. - Make sure all files under the
Data
folder have enough permissions. Open yourterminal
app and use this command to change the permission:
sudo chmod -R 777 /Applications/World\ of\ Warcraft/Data
- Open your battle.net app, it should start updating and can proceed. Optionally, you can scan and repair to make sure your game files are correct.
- Now you should be able to play WOW.
Hope it helps!
Thank you, going to try this.
I even wasted money on a flash drive to get it from a windows PC and copy to my Mac thinking it was over finally and I still can’t get past bnet insisting on updating something.
Followed all these steps and still did not work… this is such a drag.
Thanks for your effort.
Whoever reads this at blizzard… fix this asap.
Also everyone whos dealing with this deserves free game time this is 100% blizzards issue to fix
if you took it from a windows PC it’d still be missing metal shader files and mac executable, so it’d still try to update. it has to be from another patched mac
Or like blizzard could actually fix their s***… instead of making people jump through hoops that are still not working for them and lose game time they paid for.
They are not communicating with us whatsoever about this issue. That’s unacceptable on its own.
Maybe wait a little bit longer for your bnet to update. My case was that it was updating slowly but I also checked my activity monitor on the network, showing the agent is sending and receiving packets. So I just let it keep running and all of a sudden, my WOW is playable. As long as your bnet didn’t pop up an error message, just wait and see.
Unfortunately I did continue to get the errors.
Any progress?? I resubbed three days ago, and now I’m just bleeding game time without hope. At this point, I just want to refund and to forget about returning to Classic all together. We shouldn’t be ignored because we choose to use a different operating system
I would hope our sub money is just as good… but who am I?
