[Main Thread] 10.2 FPS drops when using Eye Beam on more than 1 target - Nov 2023

Also happens to me. Same problem on PC with 3070 Ti and on a M1 Mac, so I doubt it is somehow connected to Nvidia drivers. Tried clean install, without addons, lowest graphic settings, nothing changes, same lag as described above.
Mild version in Valdrakken on cleave training dummies. In M+, especially after some time in the key on larger pulls, FPS drops to single digit numbers on Eye Beam while outside of it it stays above 100.

When you’ve performed a UI reset, have to also done the advanced dropdown part that has you run the command /console cvar_default as well? And have you made 100% sure there are no background processes running, nothing else using hardware acceleration and that you have no addon managers/onedrive like programs that can be repopulating folders within the game installation?

“Before performing these steps, please temporarily uninstall any addon management software you are using. Addon managers will re-sync the data cleared by these steps”

Tried again while also resetting cvars, also didn’t help. Nothing running in the background that could modify WoW folder. Only happens on DH and only during Eye Beam, Fel Devastation in Veng is fine, other classes (rogue, evoker, druid, DK, pally) are fine.

Edit: Also happens on sub rogue on large pulls in M+, not as severe as Eye Beam, but also noticeable.

All my issues were resolved when I completely uninstalled the newest 546.01 nvidia drivers and then rolled back to 537.58. There is something with the new nvidia drivers causing issues in a lot of games.

Still sounding more and more like some vestiges of an addon or something, since you’re also saying you’re experiencing it on your m1. There might be leftovers from addons in your WoW folder. Some addons do stuff that override lua files within the pak files by creating the same folder structures as you’d find within the zipped pak files. Like they don’t just put files in the interface\addons folder. Some do stuff with fonts and other directories as well.

Depending on your patience and download speeds, you might want to do a full reinstall where you wipe the old WoW directory after you uninstall (make sure to back up your interface and WTF folders though). As in deleting the folder that will likely be leftover after the uninstall. That way, you’re making 100% sure that it’s 100% fresh in there, with no potential leftovers. But again, that’s a tall order of time, depending on your internet speeds.

I did complete reinstall today on my mac, just deleted WoW folder completely and redownloaded, the only thing I didn’t do at that time is resetting cvars, not sure if they are synced or local. Other than that this was a completely fresh install.

Confirming that rolling back to 537.58 Nvidia drivers worked for me, thank you so much!

i have the issue on 537.58 as well as had it on 546. I don’t think its a driver issue. Tons of people are reporting this in DH discord as well.

The blue post on memory leak for dx11, using /console gxrestart, seemed to help for a little while, issue came back shortly after. I’m also running on dx12.

Only thing that I’ve found to really fix it is restarting the game, although it always comes back eventually.

Can confirm something similar happened to me on my frost mage with comet storm during superbloom event. I’d done 7 runs with no issues, but on the eighth every comet storm dropped fps to about 20 before recovering. Afterwards I tested in vald on the training dummies and the fps drop was present there as well. I restarted the game and deleted cache and when I came back and tested again it was back to normal. I’m unable to reliably reproduce it.

Also having the same issue here, RTX 3070 TI, running on DirectX12, I first assumed it was one of my addons, but disabled them, only to have it pop back up later again in multi-target encounters. Also seems to affect Glaive Tempest at a lower amount. However, a /reload seems to fix it temporarily each time it’s happened. Only started happening during 10.2 as well.

Oh man, can we please get a fix on this soon? It’s truly awful, Superblooms are so unfun to do with frequent drops.

Same thing for me as well on DH with eye beams. Anytime I AOE it causes massive stuttering/lag. Only been happening since the patch 10.2.

Hopefully this gets some attention because this will get people killed in AOE mythic+ situations.

I found a fix: Disable combat font in ElvUI. (Credit to The Fel Hammer Discord)

So I tried some stuff out based on the above comments about ElvUI.

It’s possible the issue is with Floating Combat Text rather than ElvUI itself.
I disabled the Floating Combat Text and I have yet to have any issues now. Raid, Key, and Overworld seem smooth.

I couldn’t find the setting in the default WoW menu’s, but they are visible with ‘AdvancedInterfaceOptions’ addon.

Potential Solution to try: ‘AdvancedInterfactOptions addon->Floating Combat Text->Uncheck Damage’ to disable it.

Alternatively, you can just uncheck the sub-option under damage ‘Periodic Damage’. It seems that particular setting is what was tanking my FPS.

If you are comfortable using console commands or don’t want to download an addon to access these options you can try these.

Disable Floating Text:

/console floatingCombatTextCombatDamage 0

Disable Periodic Text Completely:

/console floatingCombatTextCombatLogPeriodicSpells 0

To re-enable these, replace the 0 with a 1.

I will update this if I run into issues in the future, but for now, it seems like a fix/temporary fix; at least it was for me.

Edit: Some people report disabling alone isn’t enough, but if you disable then re-enable it will work also. Seems odd. As of today I still don’t have the issue anymore.

Edit2: Issue has returned unfortunately. :frowning: Turning gsync completely off seemed to help.

Tried everything in this post and a similar one. Still having the same issue

Changing this does seem better, even using heroic leap doesn’t stutter anymore when landing. Stutter when loading in players and such still happens tho.

You are my man … Bro

Have u guys try Installing the studio Driver version of Nvidia? its suppposed to be more stable and better tested. and also reading on forums some people say disabling the accelerated GPU sheduling

Wife had the same problem with her DH. First was to alt-f4 everytime she was ready to push keys, then she figured out it was the ElvUI fonts and defaulted them back to Blizz with the problem now gone for her keys and Raiding.
