If you don’t think so then we’re at a disagreement.
It seems that way yes. I won’t budge on this topic. It’s a very important topic to me.
I hate for this topic to be the one to tell people I’m back, but Renautus is right though. Being woke isn’t a bad thing, it’s about being aware of the social issues affecting all of us, regardless of skin color. Only the Far Right turned it into this horrible thing to be.
Welcome back!
Thanks

There’s different definitions for it and what I’m trying to say is different people are going to take it different ways. The average person isn’t going to look at that word in current day and think of activism, they’re going to think of virtue signaling. Because people trying to profit for themselves instead of others have twisted its meaning. Either using the word as a strawman for something they don’t like or for trying to show how progressive they might be. The way you two are describing it is only viewed in that way by people just like you who care about it as much as you do.
I mean, there’s a lot I disagree with too. Like white people get killed by cops all the time too but it doesn’t get reported as much because it doesn’t fit the narrative the media wants to sell us. But you always get the Far Right saying BS stuff like But not all cops are bad. And they’re right, but there’s enough bad apples where it’s a legitimate threat to society as a whole.
And besides, being aware doesn’t mean we’re all lockstep in agreement on things. I bet there’s plenty me and Renautus disagree on.
Did you know, this word has only been in our vocabulary a short time. It was created in 2004 as a buzzword to combat people standing up against sexism, racism. The alt-right called being activists “political correctness” and thus became against it. This word is therefore in itself is a political alt-right dogwhistle.
So again… are you aware of that you have been indoctrinated? I’m assuming you don’t actively hate women or PoC, I just feel like you are relatively unaware this is even happening, That’s how cults work.
It’s a word the Far Right commonly uses to shut down people they disagree with, and allows them to bury their head in the sand and pretend a problem doesn’t exist.
Now you two have proven that you’re cultists.
No we’ve proven that we are aware of social injustice and the insidiousness of alt-right indoctrination.
You can put me in that category as well. I actually didn’t onowbwhere “virtue signaling” came from, but now I’m not surprised.
No, we’re not. We’re just aware that a lot of unjust things are going on in the world, and some people have no interest in fixing those problems.
Words and their meanings change over time. New words can be learned about from other people and can spread, and people will use them in different ways and contexts. The original use of a word doesn’t necessarily mean it’s used the same way today. If someone thinks everyone who uses the phrase “virtue signaling” is Far Right then they’ve been indoctrinated. Thaddeus must be trying to occupy my body because I almost feel like using the term gaslighting right now.
I don’t believe that. I believe I have seen some posters whom I know consider themselves left-wing have used that term to describe some changes in the game. Renautus was referring to the origin.
Renautus is saying I’m part of the Far Right for using that term.
I’m sorry if you feel gaslighted. My original intention was just to share helpful information. I don’t think you knew the meaning behind the words you used or how those words originated and have been weaponized by the alt-right.
It’s just that that particular word is so overused by people who are Far/Alt Right, that it’s hard to take people serious when they use it…
And sorry if you felt you were being gaslight, not my intention at all.
“Virtue signaling” as a concept does exist. It’s a real problem. Not a systemic problem, mind you.
Just an unfortunate consequence of the changing times.
People are going to try to take advantage of these changing times for their own benefit, or going to try to exploit a movement in some way, or just make changes to their works, not because they believe them to be the right choice or that they believe in the movement, but because it makes them look better.
It happens. It’s not an epidemic, like the far right wants you to believe but it does happen.
Because romance is dramatic and emotional and just makes Maiev’s whole character more sympathetic and impactful imo.
